What are the Three Ashras of Ramadan and their Importance

Ramadan is a month holding great religious importance in Islam. For which, it’s known as the holiest month of Islamic Year. Despite, Ramadan has a strong association with Islamic history and the origin of the religion; the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet (SAWW) in the month of Ramadan. Furthermore, Ramadan is a month in which Muslims observe fasts throughout the month that had been made compulsory as the third pillar of the Islamic faith. Allah Almighty maximizes the reward of every good deed performed in the time of Ramadan. It can be evaluated from the fact that performing Umrah in Ramadan holds the same reward and importance as Hajj does. That’s why a majority of Muslims also travel to Makkah for the holy rituals with Group Ramadan umrah packages.

The month of Ramadan remains divided into three Ashras (Phases). Which are;

1. Rehmat (Blessings).
2. Maghfirat (Forgiveness).
3. Nijaat (liberation from the fire of Hell).

All of these phases hold distinctive significance. 

Rehmat.

The month of Ramadan starts with the Ashra/Phase of Rehmat. It is of a 10-day-period. It’s the most beautiful start of the month. In this Ashra, Muslims are advised to seek blessings from Allah Almighty and Thank him. Allah Almighty blesses the believers with ultimate bounties during this phase. The exemplary portrayal of which can be seen from the food we eat at Iftar and Suhoor.  

Reflecting on the concept of this Phase, Muslims should also do mercy on others. That is through forgiving the ones that hurt you, helping the ones in need, giving charity to the poor, and making personal amends. 

Maghfirat.

The second phase of Ramadan is of Maghfirat (forgiveness) from Allah Almighty. It is also of a 10-day-period. During this time, Muslims ask for forgiveness from Allah Almighty through various duas and acts. Despite that, a person should opt for its personal correction also. Repent on the sins sincerely, and ask for forgiveness with honest intentions. 

Nijaat.

Nijaat or Liberation from the fire of hell is the name of the 3rd Ashra of Ramadan. It can either of 9 days or also a 10-day-period depending on moon sighting. This is by far the most important and religiously important Ashra of Ramadan because Layla-tul-Qadr (the Night of Power) is observed during this time. It was the night when the Holy Quran was revealed to Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW). Although the exact date isn’t mentioned anywhere Muslims are advised to look for it during the odd-numbered nights of this Ashra.  

During this phase, Muslims should ask for the liberation from hellfire. It’s the ultimate opportunity for Muslims to repent sincerely and get themselves freed from the fire of hell and make special Dua for it.
