American presenter Steve Harvey has a five year contract with the Miss Universe Organization for hosting the Miss Universe pageant. In contrast, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte expressed hesitation on Harvey hosting the event due to Harvey announcing the wrong winner at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant.

The 12 women will be selected from the contestants as semifinalists. Following the evening gown competition, six out of twelve contestants will advance to the question and answer round where each contestant will be given a question to answer by the jury. The three finalist will be made known before announcing the Miss Universe 2016 and the runner ups.

On 30th January 2017, a new Miss Universe beauty will be crowned who will take ahead the duties and responsibilities of the pageant. A total of 86 contestants are vying for the crown this year, and all of them are extremely competitive. The reigning queen is Miss Universe 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of Pilippines. She will crown her successor at the grand finale on the 65th edition of the Miss Universe pageant.
