The domain of Vastu stretches to every kind of property or structure including Vastu for residential, office, showrooms, departmental stores and even open plots. Vastu Shastra for residential buildings need to be followed properly right from laying down its foundation to the construction of the building or else the structure would never turn out to be Vastu compliant completely.

Vastu advice for residential structures states that once the building has been built according to Vaastu principles, the next step is to add finishing touches to the premises in question as per Vastu Shastra advice for residential properties which would ensure all-round health, wealth and felicity for its owners.

TILAK

A Tilak is a representation or symbol of purity and stability. It invokes the ‘Ajna Chakra’ present between the eyebrows and reserves intuition, memory and power for better thinking. In olden times, people used to wear a Tilak depending on the caste system that they belonged to. Where a Brahmin applied a white sandal signifying purity and peace with his index finger, a Kshatriya would apply a red Kumkum with his thumb to symbolize strength and stability. A Vaishya would apply saffron tilak with the middle finger denoting wealth and prosperity and a Shudra would do so with a black bhasma or vibhuti indicating his dedication to the other castes.

In a similar manner, one can apply Tilak to his building or structure as well. It should be applied right at the center of the building, about 6 to 8 feet above the ground level and also on all the doors, excepting the bathroom door. The color and type of the ingredient for the Tilak would depend on what you wish to achieve.

White sandal Tilak- used for peace and calmness

Red Kumkum- to gain back confidence, overcome depression, lethargy and vigor

Yellow Saffron or Turmeric- to accomplish wealth and financial prosperity

Black Bhasma- to eliminate negativity and to impose power and control

AUSPICIOUS SYMBOLS

Symbols like Swastik, Aum, Kalash and feet of Goddess Lakshmi balance off the presence of any kind of negativity within a given structure and even enhance its credibility. Hence, the usage of such signs empowers strength and prosperity to the structure. A U-shaped symbolizes Lord Vishnu’s feet and is considered very auspicious.

It is a general practice to hang pictures of deities on the exterior walls of the house. This is not at all a good idea as it is not right to leave your gods and goddesses to face adverse climatic conditions outside while you enjoy the comforts of your home by staying indoors. Demonic face masks are also used by many people to ward off the evil but Vaastu principles do not authenticate such practices and consider it to be unworthy.

NAILS

We should always use brass screws to hang decorative and pictures on the walls of our house instead of lead or steel nails.

FRONT COURTYARD

A damaged or worn out front courtyard indicates troubles and tensions for the family residing within its premises and hence should be avoided at all costs.

FRONT WALL

All the walls of the structure should be intact and well-maintained. A dilapidated front wall increases the chances of being vulnerable to litigations for its owners.
