Understanding Your Spine

by Rahul Pandya Executive
With the increasing number of patients visiting spine specialist in Ahmedabad, it has become important to get to know about your back. People who have been diagnosed with chronic back pain are not paying attention to the spine. Running from the neck to the tailbone, the spine plays an important role in your body. Covering a large area, the spine has one of the most intricate complex structures. Learning about spine and back can turn out to be helpful in the future.

You might have studied in school, or at least heard about the fact that the spine is made up of 24 vertebrae. These bones are stacked vertically, creating an entire spinal column. Vertebrae is nothing but a framework through which the spinal cord passes. In short, the vertebrae act as a shield to protect the highway of nerves (spinal cord). This spinal cord is responsible for carrying signals that are to be sent to the other parts of the body. In between the vertebrae and the spinal cord, there lies soft, spongy ‘shock absorber’ structures, known as invertebral discs. These invertebral discs help in maintaining a great distance between the vertebrae and the spinal cord so that you can easily move around. You'll be surprised to know that there are more than 120 large and small muscles around the spine, with the spinal column having numerous ligaments.

Now that you know how complicated spine and its structure is, it is expected that special care is taken when it comes to chronic back pain or any other issue related to the spine. The spine specialist in Ahmedabad keeps on urging people with back issues to get a thorough checkup done, now and then.  One of the reasons is this intricate, yet a fascinating network of nerves, bones, muscles, and ligaments. If proper care is not taken, with time, it can get difficult to track the issue. With the use of latest technology and under proper guidance, the problem can be diagnosed, but it can take a lot of time. Another major reason could be time. As said earlier, not diagnosing the exact problem as soon as possible, can worsen the situation, putting your life in danger. Looking at the complexity and significance of the spinal cord and every tissue and muscle around it, keeping it unattended for long (more than 2 months) can lead to severe damage. Once the vertebrae get affected, you'll start experiencing unavoidable pain in the back, while sitting, sleeping or even doing any other activity.

Although your spine is strong enough to support your body and the external load you carry. Taking care of your body is the best way to pay respect for everything. Not just spine, if you have chronic pain in any other part of the body too, it is advised to not take it lightly. The pain management doctors in Ahmedabad can help you out as they are known for their expertise and quality treatment in this field.
