Tips in Traveling Alone

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Travelling with people close to your heart is probably most people’s idea of a fun trip. But there are others who prefer to wander and get lost alone. Which one is more desirable and a lot more fulfilling, you ask? It’s actually both -- it’s just up to you on how you’ll appreciate each significant moment.

Are you planning to travel and explore the Philippines anytime sooner? Have you decided who you want to spend your journey with, or are you that brave enough to take that one leap alone? If you choose the latter, here are amazing tips that you might find useful to make your vacation a whole lot more exciting:

Choose a destination

The world is huge and promising enough that you’ll never ran out of reasons and destinations to  visit. For first time travelers, especially those traveling solo, it is recommended that you start small which means trying out local places. This is a great warm up for the coming grand escapades in the future.

Also, make a good research about the location. The culture, language, transportation (if possible, the fare as well); it is best if you can carry a map with you, in case your GPS won’t work there.

Pack Light

Carry all your much needed important stuff  like medicine, i.d’s, clothes, and money. In packing, choose clothes that you can mix and match, a pair of comfy sneakers and flip flops. The lighter your baggage is,  the lesser stuff you need to look after.  Do consider how much weight you are willing to carry on your shoulder during the entire journey; if you have enough muscles to carry everything, then do so.

Carry a Journal

Journal sounds too old school, right? Why write if you can just use your precious gadget to post live blogs and updates? The reason behind this is because handwritten entries are more personalized; the more effort you exert, the more special they become. Though blogging is much convenient, how sure are you that there’s internet connection in the place that you are going to? Use pen and paper, then transfer it online once your trip is done.  Take pictures as well.

Walk Slow

Savor each step that you take. After all, you’re in a vacation; no one’s rushing you for a deadline. Always take a deep breath, enjoy fresh air, and be mesmerized by the sights and views presented right before your eyes. Let the beauty sink deeper into your soul. Watch the dramatic sunset, and wake up to a new and better you in the sunrise. In life, you have to know when to slow down, and when to speed up.

Leave nothing but footprints

Sad to say but most travelers contribute to waste. They throw even the smallest candy wrapper without even thinking its impact -- on how that small junk can impact nature. Not because everyone does it, it also justifies the idea that you can do it as well. Respect - always keep that in mind.

Traveling is another way of discovering yourself.  Regardless of how far or near you go, as long as you decide to get out of your comfort zones, then it’s already good enough. Traveling alone doesn’t necessarily mean you are depressed, or a loner, rather it just shows the other side of you - the braver, courageous, and adventurous person in you.
