packaged air conditioner

There was a time when having an air conditioner was considered to be a luxury. Today, apart from becoming more of a necessity, ACs are also available in power-saving models, which ensure that everyone can afford to install an air conditioner. One of the most well-known ACs, generally used for commercial purposes is the packaged air conditioner (PAC). These ACs are powerful enough to cool or heat an entire building, while also offering special features that make it the right fit for a commercial establishment or office space. Normally, the capacity of a PAC ranges from 3 tonnes to 15 tonnes. In a metropolitan city like Mumbai or Delhi, an air curtain for open entrances and packaged air conditioners at workplaces are among the most common sights.

Here is some more information about packaged air conditioners:

Working of packaged air conditioners

A packaged air conditioner has the same working as any other air conditioning unit. The conditioned air from the hub comes out through the duct, which is usually hidden in the walls or the roof of a building. The compressor unit is kept outside the building. This is a huge unit and a technician would be required for its proper installation. Various protection devices are equipped within the hub to prevent any electric hazards. The equipment includes overload relays for motors, pressure switch for sudden high/low changes, and switches for airflow and water flow. There is a compressor in the unit that is protected using a thermostat that is winded to disconnect the circuit and preventing it from getting overheated during usage.

Main components of packaged air conditioners

The casing of this air conditioner is factory built and its main components include the following:

  • Compressor: The main unit of every air conditioner is a compressor. In a PAC, a hermetic or semi-hermetic compressor is used. This compressor is used at 350/400 volts.

  • Electric Panel

  • Air Filter

  • Air-cooled or water-cooled air conditioner

  • Thermostat expansion valve

  • Evaporation Coil

  • There are a few heating and humidifying components included as well

Advantages of packaged air conditioners

The advantages of packaged air conditioners are as follows:

  • They are easy to install because the entire casing is assembled at the factory and a technician installs it at the site.

  • It is powerful enough to cool or heat wide-spread areas.

  • It has a space-saving design. You don’t need to make room in the office to place the AC. It can be installed on the roof.

  • The compressor installed in the AC is protected by thermostats, which means that it has a longer lifespan.

There is no doubt that a packaged air conditioner is among the best choices for commercial establishments. There are a few different types of PACs available in the market today, so you should consider your air conditioning requirements and choose an AC based on the same.
