Considering the debilitating summer condition in India, it has become a lot difficult for people to stay cool without room air conditioners. And the foremost choice in this regard in Hi wall air conditioner. But the biggest fear that people face while choosing this type of air conditioner is its impact on energy consumption. No wonder, a majority of people look for energy-efficient air conditioners to save more on electricity while getting superb cooling performance.

Though purchasing an efficient AC does help, there are several things that influence electricity consumption of an air conditioner while one runs it. In a recent research done in this regard, it was figured out that there are many factors that define the electricity consumption in air conditioners.  Let’s have a look at them.

1)      Room dimensions

Though ACs are rated in watts, they generally do not eat up the same every time. For example, 1.5 Ton ACs are known to be rated from 1.5 kW to 2 kW. But their electricity consumption varies. An AC performs cooling basis its cooling capacity and the size of the room it is installed in. It simply means that a 1.5 Ton AC installed in a 120 sq ft room will consume same amount of electricity in a given time period than a similar AC put in a 160 sq ft room. As the bigger room will have more heat for removal, it will take more electricity to eliminate it.

2)      Number of people in the room

A research study reveals that the more the number of people in a room, the more cooling capacity is required. This means that if more people are expected to be in a room, a high tonnage capacity ofHi wall air conditioners will be needed.

3)      The colour of the room

Yes, it’s true. And it is not just about the wall colours of your room. It is widely known than dark colours absorb heat. So, if you’ve dark colour curtains, they won’t be of any help. Experts recommend using lighter shades in room as they reflect both light and heat which in turn helps in maintain proper lighting in the room without the need of artificial lighting.

4)      Heat emitting electrical appliances in the room

If you’re operating a laptop or desktop in your room, you should know that it is going to impact the electricity consumption by your AC. Other appliances like refrigerator, bulbs, and old televisions tend to increase your AC’s energy consumption.
