The Number One Factor Influencing Our Planet’s Changing Weather is the Sun

by Rudy P. SysAdmin at howtofindthemoney
I use the word hysteria purposely because the Sky is Falling Symphony is reaching a climatic, climactic crescendo that has been slowly but steadily building for the last 50 years, give or take a decade or so.

I will acknowledge and agree unequivocally that the climate of the earth has been and is undergoing a series of changes in weather patterns and some weather extremes. I do not buy into the hysteria that we are all doomed if we don’t take draconian measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by huge amounts in double-digit years. It took a century to move from wood to coal for energy and another century to move from coal to other fossil fuels. The next step can be done, but not overnight.

A few days ago I was having coffee with the guys and the TV is always tuned to a weather channel because their programming is – or should be – non-political and not controversial. I was treated to a segment on how Valentine’s Day has an exorbitant cost in terms of being “green.” For some reason growing all those flowers in greenhouses overseas does bad things to the environment and then on top of that the exhaust gasses of all those airplanes flying all those flowers across the oceans is so high that we couldn’t plant enough trees to suck up all the CO2.

Now picture your children younger than 8 years old and try and imagine the impression this story is making on them. Or maybe the stories about the wildfires in Australia that are truly tragic – do you think they can really absorb and understand them in context to reality? I have another one; this same channel ran a crawler on the bottom of the screen several weeks ago that said something like 85 million people were under threat of tornadoes. They have also run stories about how millions of people are going to be freezing, inundated with snow, or float away as torrential rains fall over 20 or more states.

Do you ever wonder why kids are neurotic, fearful and turning into cupcakes? We adults are the ones to blame because we (politicians, government leaders, teachers, media, and other well-meaning idiots) have taken away their childhood with things they cannot comprehend or have the knowledge, experience and maturity to analyze.

Oh, but this is proven science and the deniers are the real idiots. How come climate science is settled, but any scientist who says there are only two sexes (DNA doesn’t lie) is treated as a pariah?

In the past month, I have read articles (all from reputable sources) that claim we could be on the verge of a mini ice age (solar panels anyone?); another that stated that the U.S. had a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions last year which should be greeted as good news and applauded; and another that recommended a more balanced approach to greenhouse gas reductions that would eliminate political mandates and allow business and industry to focus on achievable, affordable measures – an approach that is almost certain to be unacceptable to the rabid environmentalists even though it could be even more effective and acceptable.

After all, the number one factor influencing our planet’s changing weather is the sun. We don’t have much control over the sun, so why do we convince ourselves that everything we do or don’t do will either help or make things worse. Have you ever thought that maybe we really are not in control at all? We’ve certainly proven – over and over and over – we aren’t as smart as we think.

While we are wringing our hands over the climate, maybe we could figure out how to get potable water, more than a subsistence diet, and shelter to everyone on earth. I’m betting that is more achievable…and needed.

Well, that’s the way I see it.
