The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) wants to give consumers the opportunity to enjoy a security measure that will stand the test of time. To that end, they have released an extraordinary new robot sentry to the market. DRDO hopes that the robot sentry will be able to provide individuals with a comprehensive, intelligent security solution.

A DRDO publication that was made available at the 104th session of the Indian Science Congress made it clear the Robot Sentry (also known as RoboSen) is going to be designed specifically to patrol and survey urban environments. So far, there is a great deal about this robot that is worth getting excited about.

DRDO RoboSen

Connected via a wireless link, this intelligent, mobile robot will be able to move freely from one location to another. You will control the robot through operator control units that will be kept in a central location in your home or office. You can program the robot to move of its own accord on a predetermined path that you create. You can also control the robot with a joystick that will allow you to provide video feedback at the same time. The robot will work with GPS, a stabilized digital compass, and laser-range finders, in terms of its own navigational capabilities.

DRDO makes it clear that the robot will be able to learn from its mistakes, becoming smarter and smarter as time goes on.

Furthermore, DRDO is also hoping you are going to get excited about what they are describing as a “Snake Robot.” Utilizing an entire body locomotion, the robot will be able to crawl all over the place. The robot snake will be able to utilize fourteen active joints. With omnidirectional moving capabilities, there is no question that these robots are going to be able to move, process information, and react as never before. This isn’t true AI, but it is a powerful indicator of where things are going to go next.

The onboard color camera will give the owner a considerable degree of control over the device, particularly in terms of how you receive and deal with the information that the robot is going to bring you.

Although there is no question that robots such as these are at least initially designed around the desire for more efficient military equipment, it is also easy to see how these robots will be able to provide both individuals and companies with the ability to protect themselves.
