The Five Successive Generations of Mercedes Benz C-Class

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a midsize luxury car known for its high levels of luxury, comfort, reliability, and performance. It was manufactured by Daimler AG since its introduction in 1993 and is currently on its fifth generation from the year 2021.

W202

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W202) is a compact sedan produced from 1993 to 1999. The C-Class featured new styling and more space with three trim levels available: the base Esprit/Classic, the mid-trim Elegance, and the high-end Sport. The interior comes with air-conditioning, power windows, and an optional sunroof with different color schemes depending on the trim level.

The W202 C-Class offered several engine options: 2.0L diesel and 1.8L, 2.0L, and 2.2L petrol engines. Added with a displacement of 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.3L, 2.4L, and 2.8L petrol and 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.5L, and 2.5L turbocharged for diesel. These engines were mated with either a 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, or 5-speed automatic transmission.


W203

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W203) was in production from 2000 to 2007 with three body styles (Sedan, Coupe, and Wagon). The W203 featured a curvier and sportier design with double-rounded twin headlights. The interior is neat and elegantly finished with top-quality materials and redesigned instrument cluster. It featured an LCD for the onboard computer with a multifunctional steering wheel, automatic climate-control unit, Bluetooth connection, CD-Radio, Navigation Systems, heated seats, and dedicated rear air vents.

W204

The W204 was manufactured from 2007 to 2013 and featured square designs with a spacious cabin. The W204 is sportier than the previous models with some new features including dial gauges common in roadsters and coupes. An Audio 20 with Bluetooth, multimedia Command APS with a 7” TFT color screen, and navigation. The W204 offers a supercharged 1.6L or 1.8L M271 Kompressor petrol engine and a 2.1L OM646 diesel engine as an option.

W205

The W205 whose production ran from 2014 to 2020 is available in four body styles with full-LED headlamps. The C-Class offers luxurious cabins with a high-end design and standard features including power-adjustable front seats, climate control system, cruise control, push-button start, and an infotainment system with a 7-inch color display. The C-Class is offered in a wide range of gasoline, diesel, and hybrid engines. The 2.0L M274 petrol engine, turbocharged 2.1L M651 diesel engine, and the plug-in gasoline-electric hybrid with 275 hp.

W206

The W206 is the fifth and current generation of the C-Class with its headlamps, grille, the hood’s power bulges, and tail-lamps that extend into the boot lid. The W206 interior has contemporary looks with plenty of seats, steering adjustment, and latest features including a 10.25- or 12.3-inch instrument display and a 9.5- or 11.9-inch portrait-style central touch screen. The W206 is available with straight-4 engines that contain a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The C200 comes with a 1.5L (M264) Mild-Hybrid turbocharged petrol engine and optional engines including a 2.0L (M254) Mild-Hybrid turbocharged petrol. These engines are mated with a standard nine-speed 9-G Tronic automatic transmission.
