A modern jacket paired with the ethnic kurta and jeans has become a common choice for attending cultural functions among the Indian men. India completely submerged into western clothing with the beginning of the 21st century. Men stopped wearing traditional kurta-pajama and switched to jeans and shirts. A complete traditional men’s dress could only be seen during weddings, worship ceremonies, and other family functions. This change in the men’s clothing can be attributed to 1980 when people started blending the eastern and western style, which gave birth to the Indo western suits for men

What saves the men’s conventional dresses from disappearing were the indo-western brands. Today’s generation loves to wear clothing with elements of both ethnic and western clothing. This has kept our cultural clothing alive.

Here are some popular Indo western dresses for men -

Jodhpuri Suit - As the name suggests the Jodhpuri suit originated in Jodhpur. At first, it was worn only by the royals. Also called the Bandhgala suit because of the collar, consists of three pieces: a trouser, vest, and a jacket. The jacket holds the attention of spectacles with the linings and the buttoned-up midsection.

Angrakha kurtas - Another artistic form of men’s clothing from Rajasthan the angrakha kurta is a loose upper garment. It is fastened on both the sides with stripes and loops. This asymmetric kutra along with dhoti and turban is commonly worn by the Rajasthani men in the desert areas. These days boys couple the Angrakha with jeans.

Achkan looks - Popular in the northern India and Pakistan, Achkan paired with pencil pants is the new go-to indo-western look. An achkan is a long upper garment. It is kind of knee-length buttoned kurta with a close neck. Historically worn by the royal men in Rajasthan, achkan now are popular wedding wear. The Sikhs, Marathas and Rajputs grooms look for western achkan over the completely ethnic look at their wedding.

Nawabi Kurta - The Mughal kurtas are a classic example of artistry. The nawabi kurtas are worn with pleated dhoties and pants. They come in a variety of western colors like wine, blue, red, etc.  Mostly available in silk fabric these kurtas make you feel like a real price. A nawabi kurta with intricate embroidery is best Indo western for men. Among the others is the pastel kurta which comes in unconventional colors. The pastel hues are a good option if you want to look unique. You can give a western twist to your printed kurtas with a denim waistcoat.

Point to Keep in Mind -

An indo-western is all about your personal style and comfort. The upper garment i.e. the kurtas and jackets should be shorter than the traditional ones.

Feel free to wear your denim, casual shoes, and jewelry. None are a fashion blunder for the Indo-westerns. You can also combine your long shirt with dhotis.

Besides the above-mentioned, you can create an indo-western style by combining ethnic & Indian wears you already have at home. The accessories, footwear, and watches are some external elements that will add more elegance to your indo-western attire.
