Taking Care of Your Car's Interior is Important
by Jessica Merrel WriterIt is very easy to overlook the interior of one’s car due to the
exterior being the most visible part of any vehicle, therefore people leave no
stone unturned in taking good care of it while neglecting the interiors.
Looking after your car’s interior is equally important since it gives comfort
to you and the rest of the passengers while ensuring everyone’s safety and
increasing the life span of your car.
Your car must have been sitting unused for the past couple of months due
to the pandemic, but in no way has that stopped dust and dirt from accumulating
inside. Also, due to the fear of contracting the virus and in your bid to
maintain social distancing, you may not have wanted someone deep clean the
interior of your vehicle. The fact of the matter is you don’t need anyone in
this regard, it can easily be done on your own. The following tips from auto repair Manalapan NJ shops will
help you in your endeavour:
1. Vacuum your
car daily to get rid of all dirt and debris from every corner. Before going
ahead, check everywhere thoroughly and remove any trash on the floor, in the
seat cracks, under the seats, etc. Vacuuming once a week is enough. Also, shake
the floor mats out prior to vacuuming to get rid of excess dirt. If you have a
dog, you already must have become used to having pet hair in the car. If the
vacuum doesn’t remove all the fur, just brush the hair away with your hand (use
a rubber-dipped glove).
2. Build up of
grime over a period of time can harm your upholstery in more ways than one. For
fabric upholstery, carpet and upholstery cleaners are enough to deep clean
carpets and seats. On the other hand, a quality leather cleaner and conditioner
will be required to clean your leather upholstery (the best tool in this regard
is to prevent since leather can be easily stained, cleaning which can cost you
a bomb). Car seat covers can be cleaned in the washing machine- a far easier
thing to do than dealing with upholstery stains.
3. Leaving dirt
to gather on your windows can compromise your visibility. Use a glass cleaner
to wash your windows daily. Purchase a cleaner that can be applied to windows.
Clean your windows thoroughly once a week, and also the mirrors and front and
rear windshields.
4. When it
comes to the dashboard, it is indeed a difficult part of the interior to clean.
A weekly vacuuming can eliminate dust, this should be combined with wiping your
dashboard with a microfiber dust cloth twice a month and applying a protectant
to keep from fading, cracking and peeling. This will also help shield the color
of your interiors from the harmful UV rays.
5. Use a
surface cleaner to clean your console, arm rest and steering wheel. Make sure
to use the right cleaner. Spray cleaner onto a dry cloth and wipe down for
easy-to-reach areas, whereas use a lightly damp toothbrush to reach in and
scrub for areas that are hard to reach like the AC vents.
6. Trunk is
often the most neglected part, but a cluttered trunk will make your engine work
harder while driving and burn more fuel. Check out your car’s trunk at least
once a month and get rid of anything that is of no use there.
To ensure you have a cleaner car at all times, have a microfiber cloth
and high-end deodorizer in place. Use the cloth to wipe any stains which won’t
leave any streaks or further worsen the mess. The deodorizer, on the other
hand, will help you deal with any odor in your car.
Remember, a messy interior not just decreases the value of your vehicle,
but also puts your personal well-being at stake. Taking care of the interiors
of your car will save you that. Thankfully, following the aforementioned tips can
enable you to easily keep the interior of their vehicle clean for years to come.
