It’s summer and it’s time to get outside. As holiday season and summer approaches, an increasing number of scooter riders will take on the road. With the increasing number of riders come increasing risks and hazards. Many scooters riders might be inexperienced individuals renting out the scooter merely for the season.

To stay safe and enjoy your summer ride, here are a few summer riding tips that will surely come in handy:

Be Seen On The Road

When it comes to scooters, visibility is the key to safety. Remember to invest in reflective gear and clothing. Use it both, during the night as well as the day. Make sure that you use your scooter’s lights appropriately - keep it turned on during the day as well.

Before summers arrive, it is a good idea to check if all the lights on your scooter are working properly. Make sure that you never take a turn without signaling first with the directional lights. It is also a good idea to indicate your direction using your hand.

Each time you plan to hit the road check the brake light, headlight, and turn signals to see if they are in order.

Stay On The Lookout For Blind Spots

Once you’re on the road, stay clear of truck and cars blind spots. Never try to weave through the traffic putting while putting yourself at risk.

Just like driving cars, many scooter riders will have a habit of looking over their shoulders before making turns. This isn’t a good habit. Although cars will be whizzing past you faster and you will want to look over your shoulder once or twice, this is what rearview mirrors are for.

Even before you head down for your ride, properly align the rearview mirrors for maximum visibility.

Watch Out For Signs Of Dehydration

Although riding in the summers is fun, the ride can quickly turn into a problem if the temperature is high. You may experience headaches, cramps, fatigue, pale skin or dizziness. If you keep on riding and ignore these symptoms, you might develop heat fatigue. Instead, pull over, cool off before drinking some water, and rest before getting back on your scooter.

Use these tips to stay safe on your scooter when riding during the summers. Haven’t bought a scooter yet? Now is the time! Check out the collection of scooters available at Power and Play Motorsports today.
