In his address to the nation in which he announced economic stimulus package of Rs 20 lakh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged the people of India to go local and work towards making the country self-reliant and self-dependent in order to boost the economy which has taken a hit due to the prolonged phase of lockdown.
In his address, PM said, “Time has taught us that we must make ‘local’ the mantra of our lives. Global brands that are there today were once local too but when people there started supporting them they became global. That is why from today, every Indian must become vocal for our local”.
Times Now under its India Revival Mission got government and industry experts on board to discuss 'Building ‘self-reliant’ brand India'. The top agenda for the debate was ‘Vocal for Local’ with global touch and how to make indigenous go world-famous by looking within to top the world. Times Now Group Editor Navika Kumar had Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj, IHCL MD & CEO Puneet Chhatwal, Amul MD RS Sodhi, Ogilvy Group CEO Piyush Pandey and Columnist Suhel Seth on the panel.
Puneet Chhatwal, MD & CEO, IHCL said that this is the moment to go global and that we should do it now. He added that every crisis is an opportunity and we should leverage this opportunity by making Indian brands global.
Hailing Prime Minister Modi's vision to make Indian brands global, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kanta said, "Prime Minister wants India to be self-confident & self-reliant to take the global competition head-on." "We should focus on quality and excellence", Kant said further.
Columnist Suhel Seth also agreed with the fact that this is the best time to make Indigenous brands global. "PM is right, there's no better time to take the world on with focus, excellence & cost competitiveness," Seth emphasised that India has enough courage but it needs more capital and focus to make its brands global.
Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj mentioned that it is extremely important to become a strong domestic player before establishing our brand overseas. "Focus affects both perception & performance," said Bajaj. Ogilvy Group CEO Piyush Pandey was also on the panel and he mentioned how filling the gaps can be a good idea. "If we don't believe in our brands, then how will we make them famous," Pandey said.
