Steps To Take Regarding Tyre’s In-Depth Inspection

by Ronnie Matt Marketing Manager

Ask any car repair expert mechanic and you will get a common reply that inspection of the tyres of your vehicle should be as frequent as filling up the fuel. Yes, this means that a quick inspection should be done every time you get your vehicle refilled using fleetcard service. Other than this quick inspection, an in-depth inspection is also required every fortnight and here in this post, we will go through the steps involved in the process of in-depth inspection.

Step 1

The First Step Is the Wear Check

  • According to the experts of fleetcard repairs, modern-day vehicles come with a tread wear indicator that is located inside the tread of the vehicle.
  • The best way to check the status or condition of the tread is to follow that indicator and act accordingly.
  • In some cases, general users may find it tough to locate it and for their information, it is located as an arrow or an icon moulded to show you its position.
  • This indicator also has a solid bar that runs all the way through the tread pattern of the tyre’s surface and the closer it is to the surface of the tyre, more worn it is.
  • This bar is basically located approximately 1.5mm from the base of the tread and this is the minimum legal depth.
  • Experts say that if the bar is the same height as the tyre’s tread or lower, in that case, the vehicle would get disapproved in roadworthy testing.
  • In this regards, one more thing to know is that there is no indicator as such on the shoulder of the tyre and hence, fleetcard repairs experts say that you will have to continue with frequent visual inspection.
  • There are different techniques for front tyres and rear tyres and as far as front tyres are concerned, you will simply have to turn the wheel to full lock and inspect the tyre’s tread and condition.
  • The inspection of the rear tyres is a bit different task, as you will have to squat down and then, inspect both of them. If the tread is low, you will see a smooth surface of the tyre and this means, it’s time to replace them.

Step 2

The Second Step Is To Inspect the Sidewalls and Tread For Debris or Damage

  • Australian roads can be very harsh on vehicles and in fact, a 4wd vehicle has to be stricter in terms of inspecting the sidewalls, as they run more on bad condition roads.
  • This inspection can be done right, when you are checking the tread and for this, you will simply have to check for any signs of damage caused by debris or poor road conditions.
  • According to those handling summit fleetcard maintenance related services, you can inspect the sidewalls for any cuts, bulges or gouges out of the rubber.
  • Staying informed of these issues in the tyres is very important as they can reduce the structural integrity of the tyre.
  • In case any issue is found, the best step is to seek guidance from the experts regarding the condition of the tyres and if confusion still prevails, it’s better to get them replaced.
  • Remember driving on a highway with such issues in car’s tyres could cause a disastrous and potentially dangerous blowout.
