5 Steps To Measure Tire Tread Depth With A Coin

by Crisanto Andrada Consultant

Tires are the most neglected part of our car. A good tire store can assure us with best quality tires, but after that, we forget to take care of our tires. A tire is the most important part of our car we should know and it can last long if we maintain regularly.

Therein, one of the most important things to check out is the tire tread depth. Tire tread depth will tell you whether you need a new tire or not. Worn out tires can cause an accident on the road. So it is safe to check out the tire tread depth before a drive.

Several methods can help you to know if you need a new tire. One of the easiest methods is Piso test. Let’s hear how will you do the test.

Piso Test:

This test is an easy way to check the tire tread depth, though it is time-consuming. The test is recommended for any tires.

1. Take a 1 Piso and place it between the tire thread. Make sure you place the Piso upraised so that the Jose Rizal head points up into the groove.

2. Tire thread is the raised portion of the tread that pushes the surrounding of the tire.

3. Check if the top of the coin (head of him) disappears between the threads. If you cannot see half of the coin, then your tire is fine. There is no need to change immediately.

If the entire coin is visible, then you need to replace your tire immediately. The tire treads are worn out or no longer deep enough.

4. Measure the other places on the same tire. If the tire is worn out almost in every portion, you should replace your tires as soon as possible.

5. If possible, measure every tire. Coherent wear is normal around the entire tire. However, if you notice wear in every portion, consider changing the tires immediately. It is better to visit the best tire store for quality tires.

If you are considering buying used tires, don’t forget to check the tire tread depth on them too. Do not drive with fully worn out tires and if you are not sure about the coin test, it is better to have them checked out by a mechanic.
