Kolkata is going to have country’s first ever Monorail project.
Kolkata is all set to launch the Monorail project. It is supposed to meet the demands of increasing number of commuters in the city. The city till now has seen just the Metrorail as a faster mode of transportation but now it is going to be a part of the 2,500- 3,000 crores project which is supposed to build long tracks over beam that will bear the Monorail. It is going to have an area covering 72 kms stretching along Taratala to Rajarhat. The project will be divided into two phases. First will cover Taratala – Budge-Budge route and the second will cover Joka – Barrackpore route.
The most important part of this project is that a major portion of it is financed by a well-known industrialist named Sri Ghanshyam Sarda. Sri Sarda is a big name in the jute industry and people recognise him as a jute baron. It was the efforts of Sri Ghanshyam Sarda that saved the jute industries in West Bengal. Sri Sarda was reformed the jute industries in Bengal at the time when there was complete chaos and it was at the verge of closing down. He took over many jute mills that were declared as sick units and through his wise judgements he saved the jute sector and brought them under profits.
The area chosen is a part of the smart city. The chief minister of West Bengal Ms Mamata Banerjee has given the green signal to this project. The state of West Bengal is looking to new zones in the fields of industrialization, and it is expected to have new industries being set-up. As an additional measure, a business summit was held at Singapore to support new ventures in the state, that will definitely resolve the current situations of industries in West Bengal.
