A clean city drive campaign of major scale is all set to start off in the city of Kolkata. With the initiative of the Lions Club International project, the objective of the clean city drive campaign is to keep the city free from all kinds of impurities. The entire image of the city will get a makeover with such a large campaign in full pace. Over the years, the Lions Club International has organized several important programs and events in the city. It has a very proficient group of members who are always keen to be part of organizing projects with social importance.
Currently around 2500 members are working on the Clean City Dream City project. It is working with 60 clubs from different parts of the city and plans to spread the project at different wards. It is very important to create brand awareness about the project and make it a runaway hit.
Unless the citizens of Kolkata are made aware about the importance of the campaign, the project cannot reach the required milestone. In the city of Kolkata itself, more than 5,732 tonnes of waste is produced at a regular basis. It is very important to dispose off the waste properly and keep the city clean at a regular basis. As per the campaign which has been launched in the city, a variety of new measures have been taken. Currently, the campaign is being popularized at different wards of the city and trash bins have also been put up.
As per a very recent study which has been conducted by the South East Asian Forum for Environment, among the 5,732 tonnes of waste produced only 700 tonnes is recycled. The next part of the campaign will focus on recycling and stress on the importance of non- bio degradable waste.
