Solution to Poor Network by IIIT Bhubaneswar
The Internet has compressed the world to a large extent. Connectivity between each other has now become active at a reach of a hand. Before two decades, one can only share the voice with each other, but now, the technology has taken its shape to a different level, and many new apps have been developed through which we cannot just share the texts or voice but can also share the multimedia files and other documents. These services are known as Over-the-Top services.
Over-the-top services enable the user to share files with the help of the internet, and only the charges of the size of file shared are charged over it. It becomes very cheap to share the content for either personal purpose or the professional purposes. But still, there are still lagging in the services that cannot be ignored. In India, the network infrastructure is not sufficient enough to meet the connectivity needs of the huge population of India. While in other foreign countries, there hardly happens any issue of network lag.
Infrastructural Lag:
The problem of insufficient Infrastructure is going to exist for the time being because to develop such massive infrastructure a lot of things needs to be involved like.
1) It requires enormous investment.
2) More skilled labour is necessary to execute the work.
3) The act can lead to increase the user end cost.
4) Maintenance problems in remote areas.
There is a lack of bandwidth to provide high-speed internet. Also, there is the lack of proper policies of the government to regulate the private sector activities in the Internet Infrastructure. For example, Telecom Regulatory of India (TRAI) has defined the broadband internet with the speed of just 512kps, which in reality does not justify the real nature of a broadband service as compared to the other nations.
Where the Solution lies?
For such a logjam, the temporary solution lay in the innovations. For example, a team of six students of IIIT Bhubaneswar has developed an app called Pied Piper that minimize the size of a video file. The decreased size of video can be shared easily over the network using least bandwidth. That leaves the scope for other things to be shared using the same bandwidth. The best thing about the app is that the video quality after the compression will not be compromised. To use the app, the video needs to be dragged and dropped into the app then it automatically converts the size of the video.
Uses of the App:
The app can be utilized for the security purposes and at the time of any Natural Disaster. For example, the app can be used to alert the Cost Guards about the possible intrusions by streaming the real-time videos. Also, in a case of approaching storms, the fishermen can be informed to change their path of travel even in the poor signal quality.
Developing such algorithms can solve many other real life problems by using programming. More innovations like this are needed to solve the network problems till the permanent solutions are not found and executed.
