Know the Universities granted with “Institute of Eminence Status”

List of 6 Universities is published recently from the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, which are granted the Institute of Eminence (IoE). Out of 103 applications received from various institutions of India including Delhi University and JNU only 6 bagged the recognition. The Universities with IoE Status are IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IISc. Bangalore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, BITS Pilani and newly formed Jio Institute.

University Grant Commission in the year 2017 asked applications from the Universities which meets the criteria guidelines set by the authority in order to get the tag of IoE. The need to introduce IoE felt because none of the Indian University got placed in the list of World University Ranking. The prime reason to put Universities under the category of IoE is to provide these institutes with required assistance by government in administration and financial matters for a certain period of time, which will ultimately help them emerge as top universities in any of the world ranking framework.

Colleges with IoE Status:

IIT Delhi:

IIT Delhi, as per NIRF 2018 ranking is the 3rd best engineering institute in India and also ranked as top university of India by world QS ranking. The institute have total of 910 seats in all courses of B.Tech and M.Tech combined.

After attaining the status of IoE, IIT Delhi will be granted with funding of 1000 crore over the time period of next 5 Years. The fund will be utilized in the areas High end research facilities in field of Nano technology, Advancement of state of Arts Lab, Improved and High performing computer labs, Development of Sustainable Technology, Energy and Environment, Healthcare, and Manufacturing. Institute is also planning to invest the funds in development of infrastructure of both academic and boarding sections.

IIT Bombay:

IIT Bombay made it to the 3rd position in the list of NIRF ranking 2018 for top engineering colleges of India. In the year 2018, IIT Bombay made to 179th position in the QS world Ranking. The institute after Institute of Eminence Status will also receive the grant of Rs. 1000 Crore similarly to IIT Delhi and it plans to invest this amount in development of facilities for its students and advancement of technology. IIT Bombay is determined to spend most of the amount in advancement of research facilities and is already forwarded a plan to build a 5 storied research building in the campus with modern technologies.

IISc Bangalore:

Ranked on 190th position in the QS World University Rankings in the world, IISc Bangalore was established in the year 1909 and is one of the oldest institute of India. Sir Jamshedji Tata and H.H. Sir Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore plays the major role in establishment of the Institute. The institute have a total of 40 fully residential departments offering various courses under its research, postgraduate and undergraduate programme. IISc. Bangalore is still working on its plan to utilize its funding.

BITS Pilani:

BITs Pilani was established in the year 1956 under section 3 of UGC Act. It is the 1st private institute to grab the status of IoE and is going to spend the granted funding in the field of research development and introducing latest courses. Also the University will use the funding in incorporating modern infrastructure in its campuses located in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad and Dubai. The institute is ranked 17th in the NIRF 2018 ranking under the category of top engineering colleges of India.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education:

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (formerly known as Manipal University) ranked number one in the category of top private institute for research. The institute was established in the year 1953, and at present provide research oriented quality education to more than 28,000 students from 57 different country. The University is also an active member of Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Jio Institute:

The Institute has received the status of Institute of Eminence despite of not having any infrastructural existence till now. The status is given under the tag of Greenfield project, which allow the institute to use the grant in making an infrastructure of world standard. The status was allotted considering the other criteria fulfilled by the Jio Status.
