Singapore a top global city to watch

Singapore is once again at the top of the list, and this time in Foreign Policy’s 16 Global Cities to Watch. The photo essay, which lists 16 metropoles that are shaping the next century, includes fast developing cities Cairo, Sao Paolo, Gurgaon, Istanbul and Shenzhen as well as commonly-perceived top cities such as Hong Kong, Washington, Berlin, New York City and London.

 

In the photo essay, Singapore was described by Harvard University economist Edward Glaeser as “surely the world’s best-managed city [...] always worth watching [...] because they provide a clear model for much of the world.” So what exactly is Singapore doing well?

 

Forging solid trade partnerships

 

In terms of foreign policy, Singapore maintains diplomatic relations with 175 countries. In terms of international trade policy, Singapore is intimately-connected to many economies worldwide.
