Professional Education in India

by Vikas Sharma Education Information
The professional education in India is not only provided by government universities, Indian Institutes of technologies,  IIITs, technical universities, central universities, state universities but a large number of private universities have been playing a very  important role in making people  of India professionally qualified. One of the prominent and reputed university is JIIT ,Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida.

Professional educations requires understanding of theory and concepts followed by carrying out practical in the labs to completely understand the concepts. JIIT is well equipped with the state of art labs and qualified faculty and technical staff to impart professional education pragmatically. Practical approach of professional education not only keep the interests of the students alive but also motivate them to a great extent to dig deeper the subjects. A lot of emphasis on lab based practical education at JIIT makes it a world class university that does not focus much on memory based examination. The examination system involves continuous assessment based on Blooms Taxonomy. The Bloom taxonomy framework has six main classifications: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. The categories after Knowledge are known as skills and abilities. This states that knowledge is prerequisite for putting skills and abilities into practice.

Since a lot of importance is given on practical aspects, the employability of the students of  JIIT increases manifolds. Thus JIIT is the best resort for the students who want to secure jobs and learn practical aspects of the subjects even at undergraduate level.  The University also has world class library and research laboratories. The major emphasis is given on institute industry interface. It has dedicated team of faculty members, students, and alumni that constantly work towards making the industry institute partnership robust. It is mandatory for the students to take up industry internships and work on real live projects. Faculty members are involved in providing consultancy to various government and private sectors. The university has also acquired a lot of funded research projects. This indicates that the JIIT university does not leave any stone unturned in providing the world class professional education. The university is committed to its students, industry and all the other stakeholders to provide quality education and mould the young minds into employable professionals.

Even during COVID-19 pandemic the university is fully utilizing information technology and actively organizing online classes, video conferencing, enabling lab work by ensuring small class size and physical distancing. Online libraries, virtual classrooms, blended teaching and learning are the other tools that have been put to use during the pandemic.

There have been a surge in number of technical institutions in India. But not all of them are able to match the world class standards of professional education. There are number of agencies like AICTE, UGS, Directorate of technical education act like watchdogs to ensure that basic infrastructure, qualified faculty and student faculty ratio is maintained. These new institutes can learn the nuances of world class professional education from the established university like JIIT

There is also a need to improve school level education to nurture the young minds. This will help generating interest in them towards professional education.
