Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
About 24 crores households in our country in which about 10 crores of families depend on the conventional sources of fuel such as firewood, coal, dung-cake etc. The smoke from the primary source of fuel is the cause of many diseases in women and child in rural areas. According to the WHO report the smoke from the burning the fuels creates pollution and causing several respiratory diseases and disorder in women and children. To provide clean energy Prime Minister launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched “Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana” at Ballia Uttar Pradesh on 1 May 2016. It is a social welfare scheme of government of India. The government aims to provide 5 crore LPG connection to Below Poverty Line (BPL) women. The central government has stated the scheme with the budget of Rs 2000 crore. Under the scheme, the government provides financial assistance Rs 1600 to get the LPG connection.
The scheme has achieved huge targets after the first year of launching. According to to the official website of PM Ujjwala Yojana, 2,73,05,708 connection has been released to the women households and it is covered 704 districts across the country. This is an ambitious scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Objective of the Schemes
To promote women empowerment in the rural areas.
To provide clean and healthy cooking fuel.
To get rid of the health danger due to the use of the primary source of fuel from the rural areas women.
Reduce the numbers of death due to the fossil fuel.
Prevent the children from respiratory disease due to the smoke from the kitchen with unclean cooking fuel.
How to apply for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
The eligible BPL women can apply through online or offline.
For online apply go the any LPG distributor company official website.
Fill all the required information and submitting the form.
After submitting the application the company send your data to your local areas distributor
After the receiving, your data distributor will call you for the connection.
For the offline apply go to nearest LPG distributor office.
Fill the two-page application form and submit along with required documents.
Eligibility Criteria for the scheme
The applicant age should be above 18 years.
The applicant should belong to BPL families.
The applicant name must be in the SECC-2011 data.
The applicant has a bank account in any nationalized bank across the country.
Do not have any LPG connection in the name of applicant’s households.

The central government approved Rs 8000 crore for the next three year of the scheme. In the financial year 2016-17 the government started the scheme with the allocation of Rs 2000 crore. In the scheme, EMI facilities are also available for the stove and refill cost. About 75 lakh household are given up their LPG subsidy after the Prime Minister’s Give It Up campaign to provide BPL household LPG connection.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is implementing the Ujjwala Yojana to social welfare. The scheme will benefit crore of women belongs to BPL families. The scheme would be implemented over three years in the financial year 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19.
PMUY is also creating an additional employment of around one lakh and also provide the business opportunity of at least Rs 10,000 crore over the next three year. The PM Ujjwala Yojana also boost the ‘Make In India’ campaign as all the manufacturers of cylinders, gas stove, regulators and gas hose are domestic.
