Porcelain tiles are excellent choices for your home

When it comes to choices for home remodeling, you can never go wrong with porcelain tiles. Porcelain is resistant to high temperatures and abrasions, and is also non-porous, which allows minimal water absorption.

But, how can you choose the right tiles that would best meet your needs?

First of all, it’s crucial not to get bewildered with terms such as "ceramic," "non-porcelain," or "ceramic porcelain." All of these terms apply to a kind of ceramic ware; however, they vary in properties, use, and manufacturing method. Ceramic is only the same as non-porcelain but unlike porcelain tiles, ceramic cannot absorb heavy impact or heavy foot traffic as they have a tendency to scrap and wear off.

Porcelain tiles are rated according to the Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) rating system from PEI Class 1 up to PEI Class 5. If you are looking for the right tiles to be used for your walls or ceiling, the PEI Class 1 is recommended, because the tiles are not exposed to any impact. You can choose the PEI Classes 2 and 3 for your bathroom tiles, and the PEI Classes 3 to 5 as kitchen and tabletops and as flooring in any part of your home or building according to the impact, foot traffic, or exposure of the area where you will install your porcelain tiles.

Porcelain may be classified into natural, glazed, and polished tiles. The natural porcelain tile normally does not undergo any further finish after it is exposed to high temperature. This type of tile may be referred to as unglazed or through body tile where the color goes all the way through. The glazed tile is coated with liquid glass that allows the manufacturer to put in a variety of designs and play around with colors. It comes out glossy and is one of the easiest to maintain. They are highly recommended as walls or accents in bathrooms and kitchen. The polished porcelain, on the other hand, goes through a more refined process and comes out looking almost like a granite finish or has a glossy effect without the glaze.

Porcelain tiles are hard-wearing and practical and can easily transform your otherwise modest home, into a beautiful abode. In choosing the best ceramic porcelain tiles for your home, you only need to identify the color combination or contrast in the areas where you will lay the tiles and the kind of exposure the tiles may be subjected to. You may discuss these with your building consultant or interior designer, or you may visit a tiles store in Massachusetts and get helpful assistance on your tile purchase.
