Online Classes’ Transcription for a Better Learning Experience

by Julie Clements Promoter
Transcription of academic lectures and other recordings are very useful to students and enable them to maintain a clear record of everything they study. The solutions provided by a digital transcription service are therefore of great support to students, teachers and lecturers. Transcripts ensure better accessibility, improved learning, and can be used for future reference. Today, students greatly rely on lecture transcripts to enhance their notes and research.

At present, the whole world is going through a difficult time due to COVID 19 and governments all over the world have declared lockdowns. The issue is particularly severe for schools, where the risk of spreading the disease is high and therefore schools have switched to online classes instead of regular classes. The United Nations reported that 22 countries across three continents have already started closing schools as a result of novel coronavirus outbreaks. This means that 300 million children are missing class worldwide and facing education disruption. In the US, schools and universities are all closing shop for varying amounts of time, some moving classes exclusively online through apps and software like Zoom and Google Classroom until they reopen. Washington State’s Northshore School District’s superintendent Michelle Reid said that teachers are working with students to make sure they are acquainted with the online platform they will be using and that students are equipped with a device and Wi-Fi to engage in virtual learning.

SeattlePublic Schools’ Superintendent Denise Juneau said that the teachers were instructed to prepare packets of learning to use while they’re out of the classroom. The New York Times reported that many other schools may not be as prepared as the Northshore School District, with some teachers across the country filling out a shared Google Doc with “tips and tricks” for online learning.

In Columbia University, online classes started on March 11 and President Bollinger declared that classes would be held virtually for the remainder of the school year, and suspended all university-related travel; both international and domestic.

In situations like this, online learning provides flexibility which in turn facilitates the learning process. Initially the process of online learning can be difficult and chaotic. So, to make the online learning process easier, and to get transcripts of lectures, meetings and other academic recordings, students and teachers can make use of a reliable transcription service.

  • Having transcripts of online classes can help students understand the topics better. The process engages a multi-sensory tutorial method, which is efficient especially in explaining complex subjects.
  • Transcripts of online classes help the students stay focused on the topic.
  • Many students from across the world are turning to the Internet to get a grip on the English language. Transcription in such cases has proven to be an effective learning aid. It lets the students, who are obviously not too familiar with the language, understand the words more clearly.
  • When online lectures are transcribed in a timely manner and uploaded, students can easily download and print these notes to be used as study materials.

A professional digital transcription service offers valuable service for schools, universities and all educational institutions and provides quality and secure transcription of lectures and seminar notes. Quick turnaround time, accuracy, confidentiality of notes etc are the key advantages of these services.  They also provide customized service according to the needs of the clients at affordable rates.
