Most Common Symptom of a Hernia

by Habilite Media Bariatric Weight Loss

Hernias are often very painful, however there are times where you might not be sure whether or not you've pulled a muscle or actually have hernia symptoms that need medical attention. So, let's take a look at the most common clue that you might want to visit your doctor. And this is...

A bulge under your skin

This is the most common hint that you are suffering from a hernia. Usually you'll see this around your abdominal area in men or femoral area if you're a woman. The femoral location is right at the triangle made where your leg crease meets your pelvic area. Because of anatomical reasons, men don't usually herniate something here although it's possible.

Essentially what you'll want to look for is that the bulge gets larger, or bulges out more, when you strain or flex muscles in that area. What's happening here is that part of your internal organs is actually protruding through the muscle there that's in place to hold that inside you. Not a pretty thought, is it?

In some cases there may not be a noticeable bulge, rather a slight burning sensation if it's not actually fully protruding. In really severe cases, the herniated area can become strangulated which is very bad. Essentially your bowels, intestines or whatever organ is protruding can become trapped in the opening and circulation can be cut off - causing said organ to die and possibly be life threatening to you as well. This is why it's important to get medical attention if you even think there may be a chance you're suffering from one.

Take my advice it's important to seek professional medical care if you're unsure whether you have a hernia or something else - like a pulled muscle. These things don't go away, you'll have to have surgery to repair them and they'll only get worse.

As you can see, the most common hernia symptom is a bulge under your skin. This isn't the only symptom however, I urge you to look at other possible symptoms hernia  and if you notice anything familiar is sure to get help right away.

The Following are most Popular Types of Hernia are:

  • Inguinal (inner groin)
  • Incisional (resulting from an incision)
  • Femoral (outer groin)
