Modulation Process-Fundamental Aspect of Radio Transmission System
Today, individuals opt to communicate information in bulk amounts with the help of radio communication systems. In fact, people use both digital or data radio communication and analogue radio communication systems links to transmit data. However, one among the fundamental aspects associated with any kind of radio communication and transmission system is the modulation process.
According to professors of Shri Ram Group Jabalpur, a well-known engineering college in India, modulation refers to the way, by following which individuals opt to superimpose information over the radio carrier signal. In other words, to allow any radio carrier or a steady radio signal to carry information, it should undergo modulation process in a particular way to convey the information from a particular place towards another one.
Selection of modulation type has huge influence on radio communication system. Here, experts of Shri Ram Group attempt to highlight about three main ways for RF modulation process.
1. AM or Amplitude Modulation
AM or Amplitude Modulation involves modulation of the signal’s intensity or amplitude. This is the first type of modulation used mainly in broadcasting of sound; despite you will find other types of modulation increasing consistently.
2. FM or Frequency Modulation
FM or Frequency Modulation process shows variation in frequency in line with the modulated signal. Main benefit associated with this type of modulation is that it avoids variations in the strength of the signal and avoids noise level to a huge extent. Based on this, FM modulation has obtained its wide application in large numbers of high quality of analogue sound broadcasts.
3. PM or Phase Modulation
PM or Phase Modulation, as the name implies, phase modulation process changes the phase of inline carrier according to the modulating signal. Phase modulation and frequency modulation possess large numbers of similarities and remain linked properly, as the one acts as the differential of the other one. However, phase modulation has found its wide application in the data transmission during the recent years.
4. Angle Modulation
Angle modulation or angular modulation works on alteration of the phase or angle of any sinusoidal carrier. Main benefit of angular modulation is that it eliminates any type of change in the carrier signal’s amplitude. According to experts of any good engineering college in India, the category of angle modulation or angular modulation has two different forms named as phase modulation and frequency modulation.
Difference between PM and FM
Users have to generate frequency-modulated signal by initially integrating the actual modulated waveform and later on, using the result as input signal to any phase modulator. On the other side, phase modulated signal generates initially based on differentiation of the modulated signal and later on, using the same result as input to frequency modulators.
