Modern Office Design Solutions

by Emma L. Business consultant

Designing a modern office can be a bit of a challenge. The office needs to serve a variety of purposes and it needs to be designed to withstand all of them. It’s obviously a place of work and it needs to be functional as such.

At the same time, it needs to be a presentable space that can be used to entertain clients and customers and even be used to organize a corporate event. It’s also important to remember that modern businesses have employees from all over the world, some of which work remotely, but still need an office as a center of operations.

Open plan

Having an open plan office comes with many upsides and downsides and you should try to balance them out before you make a call to use one. It allows you to utilize most of your space and it’s a statement about equality in the office.

At the same time, it isn’t always practical. Sometimes your employees want privacy while they work and an open plan office can’t give them that. If it’s possible, you should consult the employees about this idea before going into setting an office that way.

Modular offices

Modular offices are called that way because they could be disassembled and changed rather quickly and without too much effort. That means that each space could serve more than one purpose if needed and that an office can grow and change with your company.

It’s a good idea if you have a small company and a small space to work with, and you want to use it to your full potential later on. It can be a bit more expensive than a traditional office, but you’ll get what you paid for in the end.

A break room space

Break rooms are an essential part of a modern office since companies usually attract talented employees by the accommodations they are willing to offer. These rooms can be designed and equipped any way your employees seem fit but they need to be separate from the working areas.

Keeping a physically and aesthetically separate space has become the norm for commercial fitouts in Sydney. This is because companies want to be laid back and open to the needs of their workers but also remain professional by being set up in a way which motivates and increases productivity.

Furniture

Office furniture is an integral part of its design and it shouldn’t be an afterthought when you’re designing a space. The furniture needs to be chosen with the health and the comfort of your employees in mind. It needs to accommodate working long hours and it needs to be made for those who don’t appreciate spending hours standing still.

All of this is to say that the furniture will be more expensive than you might have imagined. Think of it as an investment in your employees and don’t hesitate to ask them for their input and make a change based on their requests.

Storage space

One feature of office space, that’s often overlooked and that makes a big difference, is the much-needed storage space. If an office doesn’t have enough of it, it’ll create problems pretty quickly. Things will get lost and problems with your workflow might appear more frequently than they otherwise would.

One of the ways of dealing with this is to utilize as much vertical wall space as you can. It’s usually underused in a modern office and with clever shelving, you could turn it into storage space that will accommodate a small business that can’t expand for a while.

Conclusion

Contemporary offices are designed with more than one purpose in mind and that’s noticeable both in their functionality and in their style. The office needs to be made for both collaboration and individual work and it should fit both day to day tasks and an occasional show and tell event.

Choosing the furniture for such an office is also a complicated task because the furniture needs to be made to fit the needs of different employees. The same could be said for designing a break room that everyone can enjoy.

Make sure that you put the proper amount of thought in these issues because it will affect how productive you are.
