MFAR Construction – CSR Activities
Mfar Constructions Private Limited was established in India
in April 1996, as an associate company of M/s Galfar Engineering and
Contracting SAOG, Muscat, one of the largest and most reputed companies in the
Middle East, having its offices in Brunei, UAE, Qatar and India. Mfar is the
brainchild of two outstanding men – Dr P Mohamed Ali, Vice
Chairman & Managing Director of M/s Galfar Engineering and Contracting
SAOG, Muscat, and Mr C D George, at the helm of Chemmanur Group of Companies.
MFAR
being an associate company of Galfar construction, it drives its source and
energy from Galfar’s work culture .Galfar has undertaken and completed
prestigious projects in UAE. It is one of the largest and trusted construction
companies in UAE. Established in the year 1972, Galfar Engineering &
Contracting SAOG, has today grown into one of the largest construction
companies in the Middle East with a turnover of over US$1 billion.
MFAR
like its parent company, Galfar construction,
has been actively involved in CSR activities. As said, Child inherits the
features of parents, same goes with MFAR and Galfar construction. MFAR works continuously
to give its construction workers. Some CSR activities that MFAR does for its employees:
v They
provide workers with clean accommodation, bunk beds, mosquito nets, free
electricity, filtered drinking water etc.
v Hygienic
& clean toilets and bathing areas are provided separately for ladies and
gents.
v Separate
cooking areas are provided for safety reasons. No cooking is permitted in the
living accommodation.
v Creches
are provided for the children of the workers. The children are provided with
uniforms, books, stationary and mid-day meals.
v
They ensure that all their workers are insured
as per the Workman’s Compensation Policy and covered under the Employees
Provident Fund scheme, where we pay from the worker’s side also
Mfar commenced its CSR initiatives from Mundgod. The
projects at Mundgod were being executed by local contractors prior to Mfar
taking up the Choera Monastery project in February 2002. This resulted in great
deal of resentment as the local contractors were losing their business and the
local labour their livelihood. To resolve this major issue and to win over the
local population. MFAR took various steps like, award small work to local
ocntractors, giving jobs at the project site to the local harbour and construct
toilet blocks near the police station and the Tahsildar office.
Mfar
is also supporting Thallikulum Vikas Trust which is being run in Thrisoor to
train poor village girls to make them independent so that they can pick up
suitable jobs and make a living. The Trust is doing charity work wherein free
training is being provided to the girls and women from the nearby villages. The
Trust is being financially supported by Mfar. They have also carried out blood
donation drives at Bangalore and Kolkata. MFAR has equally contributed during
crisis times like rehabilitation to Bihar flood victims in 2008 and Karnataka
Flood relief 2009.
