Lufthansa: A Fleet To Be Proud Of

by Anny D. Link Manager
Lufthansa is one of the largest airlines in the world today and has a considerable number of aircraft in its fleet. In spite of the big numbers, the airline as well as its partner airlines, have managed to keep the fleet size quite young, and indicator towards the Lufthansa group’s adoption of new technologies as and when they are introduced into the market. The Airbus A380 is the latest addition into the fleet of the airline and the state of the art aircraft has been welcomed into the fleet with great fervor.

The fleet of an airline defines an airline’s commitment to growth and technology as well towards the factors of customer service and passenger safety. When an airline does away with old aircraft and buys new ones with the latest technologies it shows that the airline is committed towards providing the best to its passengers. Newer aircraft of course have the latest in amenities and better interiors, factors that always play on the passenger’s mind. A new aircraft or at least a clean and well maintained aircraft always creates a good impression and the chances of a passenger flying with the airline again considerable increase if the aircraft is in a good condition. At the same time, if a competitor airline operates a better aircraft on the same route, regular fliers tend to switch airlines solely based on their comfort levels too.

Similarly, new aircraft also boast of enhanced fuel efficiency, better safety factors, as well as ease and speed of operations. Lufthansa is a group that has had decades of experience in the aviation industry and hence realize that the fleet is one its main strengths. The fleet of the Lufthansa Group therefore is easily amongst the most impressive. The aircraft in the airline’s fleet is divided into four groups, the Long haul aircraft, the Medium haul aircraft, the Short haul aircraft, and the aircraft that are used solely for Cargo.

The Long haul fleet of the Lufthansa Group is made up of the Airbus A380-800s, the Airbus A340-600s, the Airbus A340-300s, the Airbus A330-300s, the Boeing 747-8s, the Boeing 747-400s, and the Boeing BBJ 737-800 IGWs. The Medium haul aircraft consist of the Boeing 737-500s, the Boeing 737-300s, the Airbus A321-100/200s, the Airbus A319-100s, and the Airbus A320-200s. The Short haul fleet consists of the Embraer ERJ-195s, the Embraer ERJ-190s, the ATR ATR72-500s, the Bombardier CRJ900s, the Bombardier CRJ700s, and the Bombardier DH8-Q400s. The aircraft that are used for Cargo operations are the MD-11Fs.
