Learn a Few Things about Google Calendar Privacy Settings

by Simon Morris I am a freelance writer.

Many people use the calendar feature of Google. But they are not fully aware of the privacy settings. If you are one of them, it would be best to delve into this area a bit regardless of whether you access it for personal or professional reasons. Knowing about its customization options is crucial.

In case your personal Gmail account is linked to it, you have to protect all your events and event details by making them private unless you want to share the calendar with anyone.  There are different types of privacy levels that you can select to allow access to anyone. In this context, you must know that you can customize it only on desktop. The calendar app doesn't give you this flexibility.

Tips for unsharing your calendar with others

You can switch to a private mode or delete someone from the share list of your calendar. For this, you would have to perform specific steps as given below:

·         Go to Google Calendar on the desktop.

·         Select "My calendars" section from the left corner of your screen. Take the cursor to the calendar where you want to change privacy settings, and click on the three dots on the top right side. Select "Settings and sharing."

·         Look for "Access permissions" where you get an option to hide from public view or remove people from the share list. To block the public viewing, unselect public sharing, and to prevent someone specific, choose the "Remove" option showing up in front of their name.

Tips for making events private on the calendar

After you share Google Calendar, all the events that you include here will have the same sharing settings by default. You can customize the settings for each of them. For this, you can follow these steps:

·         Visit Google Calendar on your desktop.

·         Choose the event you need to edit and select the pen icon for the same.

·         Go to "Default visibility." You will come across a drop-down menu consisting of sharing options—select privacy settings from there.

·         Click on the "Private" option and save. Only you can view this event unless you have shared it with someone.

Tips for sharing a private calendar with others

It would be best if you were careful about whom you give calendar access as the other person can do anything. He or she can accept invites, modify events, or add others to it. Anyway, to share your calendar with anybody, you have to do the following:

·         Open Calendar on your Mac or PC.

·         Go to the "My Calendars" option in the left corner of the screen. Move cursor on the calendar that you wish to edit, and choose the three dots on the top right side.

·         Select "Settings and Sharing" where you will find "Access permissions." Choose either public or opt for a shareable link.

·         Tap the "+ Add people" option from the "Share with specific people” and write the name or email address of the person from Gmail and click on the sharing setting and “Send.”

Whether you use it for personal or professional work, you need to know these steps for your data's privacy and security.
