Kolkata the Capital of West Bengal has been a city that has its very own culture and tradition unlike other capital cities of other states. It has been proudly called upon as the city of joy. It is famous for good food and great hospitality. People are friendly and co-operative by nature. They know balancing the personal and work life.

This city enjoys a host of amenities that make it a better place to live. Many outsiders including tourists and businessmen keep visiting this city from time to time. It is a densely populated city that has cosmopolitans all around. In recent times, the city’s infrastructure, economy, transportation and communications have got a rapid change. The city has been upgraded to provide commuting facilities to the passengers. Many new overhead bridges and flyovers have been created to avoid traffic congestion in and around the city.

Recently, a big project rather say, a multi-crore project has been launched to construct Monorail in Kolkata. Monorail is a widely used concept in many developing cities and nations around the world. It is a rail based transit project where a railway is built with a single track rail, mostly elevated and the train suspended with it.
People today need faster commuting options that can save them time. With such an initiative in mind Andromedia Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (ATPL) took measures to get into a joint venture to form the Monorail Project in Kolkata. It is supposed to cover Budge-Budge to Taratala (about 20 kilometres run) in Phase I and again from Taratalla to Rajarhaat (about 52 kms run) which is planned to be extended to other parts of the city as well. Sri Ghanshyam Sarda, who is the chairman of the Sarda Group, is also supporting this project. He has made good investments to the project.

Moreover, it is going to be a two way line track. There will be 37 stations on total with a daily (estimated) ridership of 1,20,000 people. It is going to have straddle beam monorail. The total area including Phase I and Phase II comes to about 72 Kms which will stand on standard gauge. It is a 60 billion project that is supposed to pass through the city’s central district covering about 90 minutes journey.

Author’s bio: Ghanshyam Sarda a big name among Kolkata’s industrialists has made good investments to this Monorail project. The members of the Ghanshyam Sarda Kolkata Group have also supported this project to a great extent.
