Traveling by train in India is still a cheaper way to reach from one destination to the other. That is why most of the common people of India prefer to travel by train. The Indian Railways is the fourth largest railway network in the entire world with around 19,000 trains running through the tracks and about 25 million people availing them each day.
Booking your tickets is easy
Indian rail reservation has become hassle free and easy these days. This is because of the online ticket booking service, which is gaining popularity day by day. There are various online websites along with the official Indian Railways website named IRCTC from where tickets can be booked. Train tickets are available before 90 days of the departure date. One can check the availability of berths and seats on the desired dates before booking their tickets. But if there is a cancellation of tickets after booking, there is a minimal cancellation charge that the customer has to pay. The amount depends on the site and the gap between the cancellation date and date of journey. If you book your ticket on a wait list, then boarding on a train is not guaranteed. If there is a large amount of cancelation among the confirmed passengers, then only your ticket can get upgraded from waitlist to a confirmed one. Otherwise, your money gets refunded.
Types of classes by which you can travel
There are basically three types of classes in a train by which a passenger can travel. The ambience, personal security varies from one class to the other. So does the price of tickets. They are the AC coaches (which have 3 tiers and 2 tiers), the Sleeper class and the Second class. It is not advisable to journey without reserving your tickets. Sleeper class is the most common one as most of the people can afford the tickets. The AC classes are a bit expensive, but the advantages are many. The journey is very comfortable and the security system is high as the coach doors are locked and each coup has a separate lock system.

When you are traveling by train, it is a must that you keep your luggage close to you especially when you are traveling alone. It is better to carry minimal luggage so that keeping an eye on them become easier. The one thing that is essential is to lock your luggage properly. This keeps your stuffs safe from theft and other kinds of misplacement. One needs to be extra careful if they have to spend a night on train as there is a higher chance of misplacement during night.
