Image The key element for creating the most inviting and cozy living room is balance. However, we should not forget about the size of our living room, because even you have the most unique and precious ornaments, souvenirs, coffee table, side table, sofa bed, etc., they all will lose its shine if not placed at the right place and distance.

The placement and spacing of furniture in the living room is of vital importance, that is why you need to double-check everything and make sure no mistakes have been made. For example, when it comes to coffee tables, there must be enough space between the coffee table and the sofa (around 35cm - 45cm) so you and your family could feel comfortable and have enough space to move and reach things easily.

With that on mind, we invite you to look at our tips that will help you create the most interesting and breathtaking living room ever.

Height Of A Coffee Table

The online market is overwhelmed with different types, material (wood, glass, metal, rattan, etc) and styles (industrial, modern, minimalist) of coffee tables, but before you choose the one that will suit your living room, make sure you pay attention to the height. You must choose one that will be the same height of the sofa or at least 2cm – 5cm lower than the seat of your sofa for easier access.

Size Of  A Coffee Table

Besides the height, there is another rule of thumb to follow: the chosen table for your living room should be about more than half the size of the sofa no matter of its shape. This is essential for achieving an aesthetically designed and decorated living room.

Distance Between Side Tables And Chairs

When it comes to side tables, the general rule says that they can sit close to the sofa or chair, meaning it should be close enough so you could easily set down your coffee or book.

Height Of A Side Table

Interior designers say that the side table should not be higher than the height of the chair/s armrests and no lower than the height of the chair/s seat. If you are more into the chairs without armrests, then keep in mind that the top of the side table must be more than 20cm above the seat height.

Distance Between Seating

Regarding the distance between seating, there should be no more than 304cm and no less than 91cm. It is of vital importance for you to keep that distance, so you and your guest could freely communicate and talk.

Distance From TV To Sofa

Since the average screen today is 42 to 50 inches, interior experts recommend to keep your seating within 305cm of it.

Extra Tip: Regarding the height of the TV, the general rule is to place it 38cm – 51cm above the floor.
