Kerala is famous for its handloom sarees woven with pure cotton and golden zari. Kerala cotton sarees are very light, soft texture, and comfortable in summer seasons. The traditional style of draping the sarees is still followed. The traditional Kerala sarees are called as Mundu sarees.

The set Mundu is the traditional clothing of Kerala that is originated from the Sattika found in the Jainism and Buddism.

The Kerala sarees are similar to the Mundu, but the draping style is slightly different. And another famous name is called Kasavu sarees. The printing and dying process is done in the weaving of the sarees. Kerala cotton sarees are designed with the beauty of surrounding regions.

The Kasavu sarees are designed with the white and cream fabrics, with zari bootis, and small golden zari border, with rich pallu, this sarees specially worn in festivals and traditional functions. This sarees are specially worn in onam and Pongal festivals.

But now the modern trends this sarees are designed with the different motifs like peacocks, animals, leaves and different patterns and colors.

Kerala sarees designed with the different printed motifs, contrasting zari borders, and rich zari embroidery pallu give a beautiful look to the wearer, this sarees are preferred for parties, and college functions.

The vegetable dyes are used to design the block printed motifs and floral printed borders with printed pallu give a graceful look to the wearer, this type of sarees are apt for formal and casual wear in summer seasons.

Kerala cotton sarees worn in festivals, marriages, cultural programs, corporate meetings, and daily and casual wear.

The Kerala Cotton Saree with golden, copper-coloured or Zari borders for a white or cream fabric, also known as Kasavu Saree, is specially made to be worn during festivals and auspicious occasions.  As with Mundum Neriyathum, the blouse matches the Kerala Cotton Saree for festive occasions. Colours are generally based on age and marital status of the woman.
