Kejriwal’s Rationalized Loot By Legislation: Captain Amarinder Singh
Turning on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the newly elected Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh voiced deep concerns over the unprecedented 400 percent hike in the payouts of Delhi MLAs. Expressing disbelief, he even drew comparisons between Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, claiming that when it comes to greed and self-indulgence, the two were no different.
Terming it as ‘loot by legislation’, he accused Kejriwal of having turned ‘the common man’s government into a plutocracy.’ He even went on to add, “Kejriwal and his party's greed for money stands exposed with such a shameless hike in the MLAs' salaries, which is absolutely unfair, unjustified and outright loot of the public exchequer.”
"Today if anybody can rival the greed of Parkash Singh Badal for money, Kejriwal fits the frame best", he remarked, adding, "the only difference is that Badal does it illegally and Kejriwal has tried to legalise it."
"400 per cent hike in the salaries of the MLAs is too shameless and unprecedented in the history of the country and may be the world even, and it only betrays the plutocratic mindset of Kejriwal", he remarked while addressing the press in Chandigarh.
Critiquing further, Captain Amarinder Singh said that a 400 percent salary hike was unprecedented, not only for India but even for developed nations.
"No matter how much hoarse he may cry about integrity and probity in public life, he (Kejriwal) has actually legalised the loot of public exchequer", he remarked, while adding, on the one hand Kejriwal claims to curb corruption and on the other hand "he has legalised the loot by legislators through legislation".
Expressing surprise and disbelief at the new slabs, he remarked that an MLA in Delhi would now draw Rs 2.10 Lakh over above perks like free housing and travel facility outside of the constituency. Meanwhile, a minister would now get nearly Rs 3 lakh a month while Kejriwal himself would rake in Rs 3.5 lakh a month.
Captain Singh questioned the Delhi government, which has proclaimed itself as the people’s government, over how it could indulge in such luxury and show of opulence when the common man in Delhi struggles to make his ends meet.
