Items you must try at a Dhaba
Long trips via road to other cities often include stopovers at Dhabas serving simple yet delicious food. Originally built along highways to cater to the hunger needs of long-distance travellers and truck drivers who needed a place to rest and eat due to their hectic nature of job involving to and fro between different cities, one can now find a multitude of roadside dhabas within the cities. Bored of eating the same home-cooked food or even the International cuisines that are now so readily available in India, people often escape to dhabas to enjoy the flavourful Desi food cooked with the true Indian spices. Now if you too are planning a visit to a dhaba and are wondering about the food you should try out there, here are a few things you must have:
1.Tandoori Chicken
The fact that it was traditionally cooked in a Tandoor gave the recipe its famous name. It’s a dish not only enjoyed in South Asia, but in regions including Singapore, Malaysia, the Middle East, Indonesia, as well as the Western world. Even if you have had Tandoori chicken at popular North Indian restaurants in Gurgaon, Noida, and Delhi, you certainly should have it at a dhaba.
2.Butter Chicken
This tried and tested dish can never go wrong. Non-vegetarians usually thoroughly enjoy Butter Chicken and if you are one of those, you should definitely have it with hot Naans and pickled onions at a dhaba. The irresistible flavours of tangy tomatoes and Kasturi Methi in the gravy would ensure that you have a fulfilling meal.
3.Dal Makhani
Everybody’s all-time favourite, Dal Makhani is another item you should try at a Dhaba. People often order Dal Makhani and Butter Chicken with Naans loaded with butter to satiate their appetite.
4.Aaloo Paratha
Most North Indian households often have Aaloo Parathas with butter, pickle, and curd for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It’s simple; it’s delectable; and it’s never boring. Whether you are a Paratha lover or not, you should definitely try out the Aloo Paratha at a Dhaba.
5.Lassi
Ordering Lassi at a dhaba is almost compulsory. Whether or not you try the above-mentioned items, Lassi is something you should never ever miss out on when dining at a dhaba. And in case you are hesitant to try Lassi at a roadside dhaba due to hygiene concerns, try the variants of Dhaba Ishtyle Lassi at Dhaba by Claridges, a North Indian restaurant known for its delicious food and Dhaba-like décor.
So the next time you wish to visit one of the nearby restaurants in Saket or Hauz Khas or Green Park or elsewhere, try visiting a Dhaba for a change. I am sure you would love it. Happy dining!
