Importance of Hajj in Quran And Hadith
Hajj is one of the five pillars of the Islamic faith and is obligatory on every Muslim who is mentally, physically and financially able. At least one in its life. Despite that, every Muslim in the world desires to perform hajj regardless of its financial or health conditions. The zeal for going on hajj is the same in the heart of every Muslim. As a result of which, Allah almighty also provides such people with conveniences.
Indeed, his storehouses are never empty.
Here’s the importance of Hajj in the light of the Quran and Hadith.
Pillar of Islam.
Hajj is the 5th and last pillar of the Islamic faith. Therefore, has been made compulsory for every capable Muslim, once in life. Our prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) narrated that, Islam Is built on 5 pillars;
- Tauheed; Belief in Oneness of Allah Almighty and the belief that Hazrat Muhammad PBUH is the messenger of Allah.
- Offering Salah; Praying 5 times a day. (Fajar, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha).
- Fasting in Ramadan.
- Paying Zakat.
- Performing Hajj.
Order of Allah Almighty
Allah Almighty has ordered all the Muslims to come and perform Hajj. It remains narrated in Quran description of which is that;
- Announce the performance of Hajj to Mankind. Muslims will come for Hajj from the farthest places on earth. [Surah Al-Haj 22:27].
- Allah has made the Holy Kaabah a focal point (only Qibla) for Muslims living across the globe. [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:125]
- Muslims must perform Hajj and Umrah in the service of Allah. [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:196]
Forgiving of Sins
When a pilgrim returns home after performing hajj, Allah Almighty has forgiven all of its sins. He/she gets provided with a new opportunity to have a fresh start of life. A life that can lead to eternal success.
In this regard, the description of hadith of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) is that A pilgrim who offers Hajj with honest and rightful intentions abstains from everything that is prohibited during Hajj and commits no sin, returns home clean like the day his mother gave birth to him (without sins).
Rites decreed by Allah Almighty
Some of the rituals/rites of Hajj are ordered by Allah Almighty in the Holy Quran. For example, the Sayee of Safah and Marwah (running across the hills 7 times). The concept itself is sufficient enough to prove the importance of Hajj in Islam. Therefore, for every person coming for hajj, it is compulsory to complete all the rituals of hajj honestly and with the right intentions.
One of the best deeds in Islam
Upon asking, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) said that 3 deeds are best and most superior; (description)
- Belief in Allah Almighty and His Messenger (SAWW).
- Jihad in the path and for Sake of Allah Almighty.
- Accepted Hajj.
Reward equivalent to Jihad
Hajj is equivalent to Jihad. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) narrated that, Hajj is the jihad of the women, elderly (old people), children and weak.
