How you must train to become a professional bodyguard

by Executive Protection Institute EPI was founded in 1978

Becoming a successful bodyguard often requires an individual to have a wide variety of skills that go beyond physical protection. Depending on your client, you may need to be an expert at home security, pre-trip planning, self-defense, and weapons.

Checking out a personal protection school and speaking to a professional bodyguard should help you decide if this career is right for you. They can also help guide you through preparing yourself for the role.

Hard job skills

Hard skills are skills that are specific to work performed. In the case of a professional bodyguard, you need to know self-defense if you wish to protect your client from any physical confrontation. You must also know how to handle different kinds of weapons. Moreover, a bodyguard has to undertake often a wide array of roles such as chaffer services, which is why you must be an excellent driver. A bodyguard training course will teach you additional skills like threat assessment, protection driving, and handling different office and home security systems.

Soft job skills

A bodyguard must be able to confront any unruly public members and work alongside others in your team. Besides hard skills, a professional bodyguard also has to deal with various people every day. To do this efficiently, you must learn multiple soft skills like leadership (working in a team), interpersonal communications, scheduling, and time management, amongst others.

If your long-term goal is to become a professional bodyguard and hope to get more opportunities, signing up for an experienced bodyguard course makes sense. Keep in mind that a client will value security personnel who have adequate training in the field. As long as you have all the skills needed for the job along with a degree to prove it, you will not have a difficult time looking for excellent opportunities.
