by Executive Protection Institute EPI was founded in 1978

A bodyguard is a highly trained professional who offers his clients protection from all types of bodily injuries, assassination, kidnapping, harassment, embarrassment, assault, or stalking.

Their clients often include famous public figures, celebrities, government officials, and wealthy families since they are people who may be targets of harassment or violence.

In the middle of the 20th century, hiring professional services of a bodyguard was limited to the parliamentary or defense forces. These services were often involved in providing security to the state heads like presidents, prime ministers, and a few other important defense and government personnel.

Nevertheless, rising political unrest and increased violence throughout the globe have forced people to hire bodyguards to protect themselves and their loved ones from being attacked or kidnapped. There are established and organized terrorist and criminal groups that may pose a danger to your clients.

This is why the number of professional bodyguard jobs has steadily increased with the need to hire security for all types of problems and circumstances.

How to become a bodyguard

Knowing how to defend your client and yourself is one of the most critical skills that a bodyguard should have. A bodyguard also needs to be in perfect physical condition to be the best in the business. The aspirant should at least graduate from a professional bodyguard school and should know how to handle weaponry.

Given below are a few skills that a professional bodyguard school is going to teach you:

  • Threat detection
  • Anti-ambush procedures
  • Anti-terrorism training
  • Self-defense and close combat
  • Security procedures
  • Defensive driving techniques

If an aspiring candidate has some security services background, they can use it to tie up with an agency to provide such jobs.

Nevertheless, suppose you are not from defense or security services but still meet the requirements mentioned above. In that case, you can choose to go for some introductory training courses provided by some training centers and can look for employment once armed with all the required certification and training.
