How to Relocate Your Company to a New Location Easily

by Emma L. Business consultant

Relocating your company to a new location is a lot more than just packing your stuff and signing a new contract. A lot of thinking, researching and effort is required. Therefore, here are some of the primary essential steps which should be followed in order to find a proper new location for your business.

Define your budget

It is vital to determine your budget before any other step. You have to know how much money you need for renting or buying a new space. Also, you will have to cover all the extra costs – renovations, moving costs, insurance, utilities, etc. That is the only way for you to see realistically what you can afford. Creating an adequate real estate budget is the first precondition for all other moves.

Analyze how much space you need

First of all, determine exactly what went wrong with your previous space, and decide what you want to change. Does your new location need to be a lot bigger or not? How many rooms do you need? How do you want your office to look? There are many more questions, but these are crucial. Answer all of them and look for a building that fits your plans. Don’t spend too much money on a huge space that you don’t even need.

Research potential locations

Other than the questions that we’ve already mentioned, you have to think about a few more things when you start your search for a new location. One of the essential predispositions is accessibility, especially for clients and suppliers. Parking and public transport are also significant, as well as potential zoning issues and nearby services. None of these steps should be underestimated and keep in mind that your new location has to match all your needs in order to be effective.

Try to be effective in negotiations

When you choose the location, it is time to get a favorable purchase agreement. Always be prepared to negotiate and be effective as much as possible. It is essential not to sign whatever paper landlords give you. Read every document carefully and analyze all the responsibilities, property taxes and potential incidental costs. For the best results, hire the right team of real estate advisors. It will cost you, of course, but in the end, it might pay off.

Move over the weekend

This is not a rule or anything like that, but only a suggestion. It is easier to move when you have a free day. Moving after a long, hard working day is not recommended because of tiredness and fatigue. If the weekend is impossible, try to choose a holiday or take a day off. It won’t be a problem since there are many rental companies in New Zealand and Australia that work every day. For instance, if you want to relocate your company in New Zealand, it is not difficult to find truck rental in Auckland and nearby locations. The point is to choose a day which fits your schedule and hire the best company to do the most of the job.

Update your address on all marketing and social media channels

The last but maybe the most crucial step is – informing everyone that you have a new address! First, change your address on Google and inform the post office, your community partners and even the government. After that, do the same on your website, business cards, email marketing templates, signatures, etc. Also, don’t forget to update the address on all your social media platforms since a massive number of your customers use it. Not only that, but you should also create posts about your new address, and pin these posts to the top of your page. And finally, it is highly recommended not to change your phone number if it is possible. Even if you inform everyone through email, social media, and other platforms about the address change, there will always be a small number of people who will overlook your posts. If you keep the same phone number, they’ll be able to find out about your new location easily.

Finding a new location for your company is more complicated than it might seem. However, with the right moves and decisions, the whole relocating process will be more successful and more relaxed.
