How to Monitor Your Car and Tyres During the Lockdown?

by Trade Price automotive

The Coronavirus has really made life difficult with people stuck at home. However, what many car owners do not realise is how their car is being impacted by staying inside or under an open garage for days and months. With nowhere to go, work from home and just running to the nearest store to buy essentials, you do not need your car for everyday travel and cannot go out for long drives.

Tyres Bryn when kept stagnant for a long time, can easily lose pressure and even get damaged, making it impossible to use them during emergencies.

Your car and your car tyres require some love and care, even if they cannot be put to use except during times of emergency. Therefore, here are some of the basic car and car tyres tips that will help you keep your car in great condition even during the lockdown.

Check Your Battery Every Now And Then

Keeping the car idle can cause you a lot of hassle as it might not start later on. This is because of the battery getting discharged as the vehicle was locked up in the garage. If possible, make sure to keep the engine on, the AC alongside the lights of your car and let the battery of your car run for just a few minutes every week.

This ensures that the alternator replenishes the battery and it does not break down when needed. If the vehicle has been kept in that state for a long time, ensure to bring spanners and then disconnect them. This will save you from a lot of trouble if you have an emergency and the car will not start.

Keep A Check On The Tyres

When the tyres stay in one place, even if the tyres are not punctured, there is a high chance that air will slowly start leaking. Even if you are not using your car, make sure to check the tyre pressure every now and then; during the lockdown, it could be difficult to get your tyre pressure topped up. Therefore, invest in the right tyre pressure measuring unit and tyre inflator to do it at home as it is quite easy.

Even if you inflate the tyres regularly, keeping the tyres in the same spot will create flat spots, which will then later cause a lot of hassle and vibrations. Make sure to drive the car for some distance within your apartment garage to avoid flat spots. You could even push the car back and forth by at least 5-10metres.

Opt For A Visual Check

Even sparing a minute or five for your car every week while under lockdown can help you detect any damage or issue there might be with your car. Check your car before driving to the nearest supermarket to make sure there are no unwanted stones or objects within the tread.

Check your tyres to see if there is any wear or tear, whether there is an oil leak or not. Look for any bolts that might have been embedded under the tyre and can cause air leakage.

Check For Chemical Contamination

Where you have parked your car matters a lot when under lockdown as it would be there for a long time. Ensure when parking your car that the tyres are not standing on water or even any chemical solvent. This will drastically impact the tyre condition and will worsen with time. Even if you spot such contaminants, remove them. Use a very mild detergent and water and clean the tyres thoroughly.

Regular tyre maintenance will keep them going on for long, even after the lockdown so that you can get back to your everyday routine with ease. Perform all the above measures by ensuring your safety and maintaining all the protocols. Keep your car road-ready by keeping them free from damage and in good condition. Seek professional help if there are any major issues with your tyres Haydock immediately.
