A Tyre that Talks to You – Pirelli is Bringing Future of Car Technology for Drivers
by Trade Price automotiveUnderstanding your car can be a tricky affair. There are
a thousand things that you have to take care of, and at times one can forget
important ones like checking tyre pressure.
Tyre manufacturers have tried different methods to
warn you about the condition of their products. Many incorporate visible
markers that denote the state of the car
tyres. Pirelli has, however, won the race
to create something that will deliver accurate information directly to the
driver.
Say hello to Pirelli's
cyber tyre- a unique product that stays
connected with your vehicle and sends data about its performance and condition
directly back to you. Not only will it keep you safe on the road, but these new Car Tyres in Newport will also help you adhere to the law and get better performance.
How Did They Come Up With the Idea of a Connected Car
Tyre?
According to Pirelli,
they have been working to make a ‘smart’ tyre for years now. Their researchers have already filed at least 300
patents regarding an interconnected system. Pirelli joined hands with
Milan Polytechnic Foundation and Berkeley Wireless Research Centre to create
their masterpiece.
Some
of the New Features
According to Pirelli,
their Cyber Car technology will have two
main elements. Let's take a look at them.
i. A pressure and load detector – Understanding a vehicle’s load carrying capacity inessential. With the Cyber Car technology, these tyres
will be able to inform the driver about how much load and downward force
it is experiencing.
It might not seem relevant
today; but as the future ushers in, more and more electric vehicles this will
prove to be a prominent feature. The weight of the car is a significant factor in determining its range. A smart car with an
intelligent tyre will give you accurate range estimates.
ii. Identifying the tyre – The Cyber Car tech will also be able to recognize and tag information like your car
tyres size, pressure, manufacturing date etc. Along with monitoring the health
of the unit, it will be able to
communicate with a garage on your behalf and inform them which spare you will
need.
Integrating the Tyre in One System
To make this connected system possible, Pirelli fits a
sensor inside the tyre itself that will
relay data back to the vehicle’s ECU or the owner's
smartphone. Reportedly they have already started working with several top-tier automobile
companies on this project. This information will be delivered in real time, and
the tyres will also be able to check on its wear and tear.
The Future is Already Here
Pirelli is already testing their Connesso platform, a
base for the Cyber Car system in the United States, and they promise to bring
it soon to Europe and the UK. This system
is not in a prototype phase anymore. In a road test, it was fitted to a Porsche 911; it informed the driver when its
temperature reached 60°C.
While you will not find these tyres in your
neighborhood garage right now, you can check out the extensive range of Trade Price Tyre in Newport and pick up any other Pirelli product. However, Pirelli's researchers and scientists are
working hard to bring these unique products
to the market as soon as possible.
