·         Ultrasound: In many cases, the doctor may suggest going for an ultrasound to get a better view of the thyroid gland.

·         Radioactive Iodine uptake and thyroid scan: Generally, radioactive iodine uptake is taken to evaluate the amount of iodine can your thyroid take up and at what rate the production of hormone happens. It is done by taking a little amount of radioactive and gamma probe is used to check the thyroid. In this process, the cause of hyperthyroidism can be known with the help of the amount of iodine taken.

What causes hyperthyroidism?

                There are some common causes of hyperthyroidism that are mentioned below:

·         Grave’s disease:  Graves’ disease is the common cause of hyperthyroidism in which the body attacks those thyroid tissues that are healthy and working. At times, the impact of this disease is on muscles behind the eyes.

·         Thyroiditis: It is a condition where the thyroid gland gets swollen or inflamed. It may happen after a severe illness. Although the effects of this disorder may remain temporary. When the women are pregnant they may have a high risk of thyroiditis.

·         Goiter: When suffering from hyperthyroidism, the enlargement of the thyroid gland can be easily seen, that is known as goiter. But the swelling in the thyroid can be related with hyperthyroidism.

How hyperthyroidism can be treated?

                Hyperthyroidism can be treated in various ways such as medicines, radioactive iodine and with surgery. At times, antithyroid medicines can help to stop the overproduction of hormones. At the initial level, it is a common treatment. Besides this, radioactive iodine can help in destroying the cell that produces the hormone. In most of the cases, this treatment is recommended. If all the mentioned ways get failed then the doctor suggests removal of thyroid gland through surgery.  After surgery, one needs to consume hyperthyroidism supplements to safeguard from this issue.
