by jiva ayurveda Jivaayurveda
Acne is a skin condition where excess access amount of oil is produced from the sebaceous glands leading to the blockage of hair follicles. It is the most common problem seen in adolescents and is therefore known as Yauvanpidika in Ayurveda. Acne usually affects the face, back and shoulders and also the other areas were the sebaceous glands are present. Acne presents itself on the skin either as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples or nodules.

Acne is primarily caused by the impairment of all the three doshas, mainly the pitta dosha, which further vitiates the blood and fat tissues. The Vitiated doshas produce toxins that tend to block the energy channels leading to pimple formation. Acne can also be aggravated by excessive intake of oily, spicy, salty and sour foods.

Ayurveda has a single approach for all forms of acne as this problem appears because of the imbalance of the three doshas — vata, pitta and kapha. As acne is deep-rooted, the use of local creams, antibiotics and lotions can only mask the symptoms. Thus, the ayurvedic specialists advise Ayurvedic acne treatment and home remedies to get rid of the problem. Some of those home remedies are:

Cinnamon and honey mask – Honey and cinnamon are a perfect combination to get rid of acne. Cinnamon has antimicrobial properties that prevent bacteria from growing, where as honey is a natural antibiotic which destroys the bacteria present.

You can take two tablespoons of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon and mix them together to form a paste. Apply this mask on your face or just spot treat the acne, leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse it and pat the face dry.

Tulsi paste – Tulsi paste, as we know, is an excellent Ayurvedic treatment for all skin problems including acne and pimples. If you cannot get hold of fresh Tulsi leaves then, dried tulsi leaves would also do the trick.

Simmer 2-3 Tulsi leaves in warm water and forms a paste. Leave it on the face for about 10 minutes and repeat this 4-5 times a week. It’s also a best natural remedy for acne when used as a toner with Apple Cider Vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar – Apple Cider Vinegar kills off the bacteria that causes pimples. It also balances the pH level of the skin, making it difficult for bacteria to live.

Take pure, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and fresh water; in an apple cider vinegar and water ratio of 1:3, now dip a cotton into the mixture and apply onto the blemishes. Leave it on your skin for 10 minutes and rinse. You can repeat this method several times a day unless your face is cleared.

Tea tree oil – Tea tree oil is the strongest home remedy for acne that shows its effect overnight. Tea tree oil works as a solvent that cuts through the excess dead skin cells and sebum and unblocks pores of the skin. It also contains antibacterial properties that kill acne-causing bacteria and also prevents further outbreaks.

Dilute the tea tree oil with 1:9 oil and water ratio. Now, dip a cotton in the mixture and apply on the effected areas. This will help in clearing your skin almost overnight.

These methods are not enough if you do take care of your diet and lifestyle as these remedies only work when you take care of all the supporting things. But if you still cannot get rid of your problem then you should definitely visit one of the best ayurvedic centers in India to get a proper treatment.
