How to fix Invalid Depot Configuration Error on Steam

Steam is a digital distribution service for video games produced by Valve. It also provides “DRM” matchmaking servers, networking facilities, and video streaming. While using Steam, users reported an error while updating or downloading games over the “Steam” forum. 

The error says ” Invalid Depot Configuration” and it arises when you try to upgrade or download your game on your system. After getting this error, you can’t update your game.

  3. Now, choose all files located inside the “Steam Folder.”

  1. Firstly, you have to check that the “steam” service is properly closed.
  2. After that, go to the “File Explorer” and then hit it to launch.
  3. Expand the folder “Steam” and then locate the “SteamApps” subfolder.
  4. Now, look for the file option “appmanifest_[gameid].acf file” and right-click it.
  5. Then, hit the “Open with” option and select any of the text editors like “Notepad” to launch it.
  6. Next, you have to remove all the numbers available under the section “MountedDepots.”
  7. After that, hit the “File” tab there and then click on “Save.”
  8. Now, whenever you open “Steam,” it will automatically set up a properly modified configuration of “MountedDepots.”

6. Re-Downloading Steam 

To install Steam afresh, you have to follow these steps:

  1. First of all, move your “Steamapps” folder far from the folder “Steam.”
  2. Then, launch the “Run” dialog box.
  3. After that, type “appwiz.cpl” in the provided space and tap “OK.”
  4. Now, choose “Steam” and then hit the option “Remove/Change.”
  5. Follow the onscreen indications to delete “Steam.”
  6. Next, reboot your system prior to reinstalling “Steam.”
  7. Hit the tab “Install Steam” option located at the “software’s download page” to receive the latest edition.
  8. Now, launch the setup wizard of Steam in order to join the game client with Windows.
  9. After that, you can put the “Steamapps” folder into the folder “Steam.”
