How to Enjoy a Healthy Umrah?

For many Muslims, umrah is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Since, for buying an umrah package, you have to go through a complete visa process as well as need to possess sufficient financial means to sponsor your travel and stay there. However, it might not be the case for everyone. Thus, whether you are able to go for umrah multiple times or only once, no one would ever want to fall sick during the pilgrimage. Ineffective vaccinations, unfit physique, and unhealthy living habits can enhance your chances of getting sick there. So, to enjoy a healthy umrah here are a few tips.

Avoid Junk food, add plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet

Eating junk foods can cause you stomach-ache and other such problems. While they aren’t that serious but your Umrah rituals can get affected if you fall sick. For the very reason, avoid unhealthy eating. Add a lot of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Stay Hydrated. Consume organic eatables. They will keep your digestive system healthy and your body energetic.

Get proper vaccinations after consulting your doctor

Vaccinations against Poliomyelitis, Meningococcal Meningitis, Yellow Fever are usually required by the Saudi Government. On the other hand, there might be some diseases for which you need to consult your doctor and find out the need for vaccinations. Like, Tuberculosis, Cholera, Rabies, etc. Thus, pre-arrival consultation and proper vaccinations are necessary to keep others as well as yourself safe.

Prepare yourself mentally and physically for the spiritual journey

Prior to your arrival in Saudia Arabia for pilgrimage, prepare yourself. Learn about the ritual of Umrah online. Understand the proper way of Wudhu and Ghusl. Know the rules of Ihram. Study the necessary obligations of Umrah. In addition, preparing yourself physically is also essential. If you don’t walk, try walking at least 30-40 minutes regularly, at least 2 months before going on an umrah. As you will have to cover long distances there, on foot, as part of umrah rituals.

Exercise, even while being there

Exercising is the key to enjoying a healthy umrah. Not only it keeps you active and full of energy but it also allows you to perform Umrah rituals effectively. For example, Tawaf, Sa’i, etc. Even when you are on umrah, don’t forget to exercise. You don’t necessarily need to work out intensely but switch to basic home-based exercises if you desire.  

Take great of your hygiene

Use neat and clean toiletries for your personal use, separate for every individual. Wear alcohol-free fragrances (Itar). Take great care of your oral hygiene. Use fragrance-free sanitizers when necessary. Wear neat and clean clothes. 

Take some precautionary medicines with you

Flu, Fever, Coughing, Allergies are a common problem everywhere you go. If you are traveling from a country with a different climate, a sudden change in the atmosphere can often lead to these diseases. Therefore, take some precautionary medicines with you on your Umrah trip.

If you are going to perform Umrah in last 10 days of Ramadan, Haram is quite crowded. Therefore, these tips will help you stay safe and healthy during the pilgrimage.
