How to clean and deodorize a mattress?

Your mattress would accumulate dirt faster than others in the house. The dust, dead skin cells, bed mites, dust etc all would be there on the mattress. Since it is your personal haven, it must be kept clean always. Being a larger item that does not go into the washer, cleaning the mattress is a tedious job. Though it can be cleaned by a professional machine, it costs you more. There are manual way to keep the mattress clean and hygiene. Cleaning and deodorizing the mattress is done in definite steps for perfection.

1.       Vacuuming the mattress should be the first step of cleaning. All the dust, dead skin cells, and mites will be removed by the vacuum. It also prevents the debris from settling deeper into the mattress.

2.       Deodorizing: Sift a generous amount of baking soda all over the mattress evenly and let it sit for a while. It will absorb the odor from the mattress. To increase its effects as a few drops of essential oil into the baking soda before it is sifted over the mattress. It will maintain the fresh smell of your luxury mattress and helps remove the unpleasant smell of memory foam mattress. After a while vacuum the baking soda from the mattress.

3.       Spot cleaning is the next step. Look for any stains or dirt on the mattress. The sweat, spills, or any fluids that might have on the mattress can leave a stain find them. Clean the stain or dirt with hydrogen peroxide and water paste. Apply the paste on the stain, leave it for a while, and clean it using a damp cloth dipped in cold water. Use only very little water or moisture for cleaning a mattress.

4.       Drying out: The mattress must be completely clean before using it again. Use a fan or a dry blower to dry the mattress before spreading the sheet over it.

Tips to maintain a clean mattress

·         Rotate the mattress regularly so that it wears out evenly and make it easier to maintain and clean it. There will be less dirt accumulation to clean it. Rotate it from head to toe and also upside down from time to time the ideal time in 3-6 months.

·         No water: Absolutely no use of water or wetness on the memory foam mattress. It does not take water well and will get soaked and spoil the mattress. Use only dry cleaning methods on these kinds of mattresses.

·         Professional help for bedbugs: If you have bedbugs, never wait, get professional help immediately and get rid of it before it damages the mattress and harm you.

·         Mattress protector must be compulsory for any mattress, firm mattress, pillow top or any other kinds. The mattress protector should be washable and that will protect the mattress from any spills, sweat, or dirt.
