Gamification in Compliance Training: Exploring Different Use Cases

Employees find most of the compliance training programs boring. Therefore, e-learning approach helps:

  • To spread awareness among the employees and motivate them to stay updated with regulatory compliances.

  • To incorporate better e-learning strategies to enable learners to analyze the consequences of certain real-life situations.

  • To boost knowledge retention through learning aids such as Performance Support Tools to drive learning reinforcements.

Discussed below are few examples where game-based e-learning approach is followed to train the workforce in industry compliances:

  • Learners participate as a team in gamified e-learning programs associated with different challenges and tasks assigned to them. Incorporation of multiple characters within a gamified assessment improves the overall learning uptake. The players also earn points and badges on the leaderboard, thereby motivating them to learn more and perform better.

  • Another gamified training journey takes employees into an immersive training environment by selecting an avatar. For instance, while moving to different departments within the office, employees choose an avatar to undergo a specific activity at each level. On successful completion, they are granted with an access card to move to the next location within the organization.

  • Online courses based on 'Code of Conduct' are also gamified where learners explore a location and find the key to the confidential document.  At each level during the game, learners need to take decisions based on the different real-life workplace situations. If the decision is correct, then learners are rewarded with points, followed by giving the ‘Expert’ badge on the leaderboard.

  • Another scenario of gamification involves an Island Migration theme where a learner needs to cross an island to reach the next level. On each island, the learner can opt between choices whether to take another challenge in the form of a quiz or take a tour by exploring information on industry compliance. This strategy promotes self-paced learning in which learners engage and retain maximum knowledge on updated regulations.

Companies from varied industry verticals such as BFSI, Aviation, Healthcare, and others need to adopt effective e-learning strategies to meet their compliance requirements. Therefore, the gamification approach is adapted to deliver compliance training, making the overall experience completely fun and engaging. Instead of creating one-size-fits-all training courses, learners perform several tasks based on their varied job roles and preferences. Consequently, employees actively participate in online compliance training sessions, boost their workplace efficiency, and stay up to code.
