In summers, a person's skin is more prone to get exposed directly to the UVA and UVB rays from the sun. These two harmful sun rays can harm your skin and can cause premature ageing and skin cancer. But, wearing sunscreen can protect your skin from these two harmful sun rays. Every person has a different skin type, and for every skin type, you can find different sunscreen. Apart from the chemical-based brands, there are many ayurvedic brands available in India that provide natural sunscreen to people. But, many of us aren't aware of the ingredients that formulate an effective sunscreen. Here is a list of ingredients that you should consider while selecting sunscreen for yourself.

Ingredients that Should be a Part of Sunscreen

1. Titanium dioxide

As per the research studies, it is found out that Titanium dioxide is safer than the other sunscreen ingredients. The FDA also approves of using this ingredient for children older than six months. Although, for this ingredient, it is recommended that one should not use it in sprays as it can be harmful. This ingredient does not have a restrictive use in sunscreen, but it is used in other makeup products as well.

2. Zinc oxide

Zinc oxide is another sunscreen ingredient that is approved for restrictive use only. For this ingredient, the research studies found out that it is safe for skin use and does not cause any harm even after repeated use. This ingredient is not practical for sunburns but can be effective in sun damage. As compared to other ingredients, Zinc oxide is safe for sensitive skin as well.

3. Mexoryl SX

Mexoryl SX is an ingredient that acts as a UV filter in sunscreen. As per research, it is found that Mexoryl SX is an effective UV absorber and can prevent sun damage. It also can block the UVA1 rays.

4. Avobenzone

Avobenzone is an ingredient that can block the UVA range and is often combat with other ingredients. It can be combined with zinc oxide, titanium oxide, and other chemicals.

Ingredients that Should not be a Part of Sunscreen

1. Tinosorb S and M

Tinosorb S can protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays and is very popular in European countries. But there is a lack of information about the pros and cons of this ingredient. If you live in the US, you will not find this ingredient in any sunscreen as it is banned in this country.

2. Oxybenzone

Oxybenzone acts as a filter for UVA and UVB rays and is very popular in the US, but in Hawaii, it is banned. It is so because a research study claims that this ingredient contributes to bleaching and poisoning coral reefs.

Conclusion

Protecting your skin from harmful sun rays is essential. But one should choose a sun protection cream for the face after reading all the ingredients of the sunscreen. This will help you to give proper and effective care to your skin.
